Showbiz and AG recently released the proper instrumentals from their first album as Runaway Beats digitally, and as is often the case with these sort of things there was this never released remix of ‘Bounce Ta This’, using a loop from one of the album interludes, a new vocal hook and a new chorus sample. As to why this never made it on to the twelve inch of this song (which instead featured a slight re-working with an extra horn stab and new Dres raps)? Blame Patrick Moxey, I guess?

I just had to look up who Patrick Moxey was.
Relaunch of Payday Records?
This was used as the intro to the song ‘Medicine’ from their second album. The one and only Deshawn made a shout-out over it.
That second album is flawless, minimalist genius…
Their second LP is a perfect piece of art, no doubt.
Absolutely. It might be my favorite DITC album. And it’s weird to know that the intro to Medicine was leftover from Runaway Slave.
Yes, Goodfellas is a great DITC-member album. My top 5?
1. Fat Joe – J.O.E.
2. Big L – Lifestylez
3. Show & A – Goodfellas
4. Diamond – H.P.I.
5. Lord Finesse – Awakening
1. Goodfellas
2. Return of the Funky Man
3. Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous
4. Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop
5. Runaway Slave
O.C. isn’t getting much love around these parts…
‘Medicine’ is one of the greatest rap songs of all time.
I love Goodfellas, but no way does it beat Runaway Slave. I also wish they hadn’t left off stuff like “Under Pressure” from the final tracklist.
@3BM-Ark – I guess both Word…Life and Jewelz feel less like a total D.I.T.C. family affair than some of the others mentioned. For the D.I.T.C. connection, Word…Life is all Buckwild, plus one Finesse joint; the number of non-D.I.T.C. productions on Jewelz outnumbers the total tracks with D.I.T.C. members contributing beats.
On that note, I think Fat Joe’s Represent is much more of a D.I.T.C. album than Jealous One’s Envy.
And if you think Hatred, Passions & Infidelity is better than Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop, you’re buggin’.
@Robbie: Agreed, it’s one of my favorites.
@Paul H: I think AG hit his peak on Goodfellas, and I prefer the darker and moodier Showbiz beats. And I really like the heavy Ghetto Dwellas influence. D-Flow blazes shit on that album.
My top five DITC LP’s:
1. Return of the Funkyman – Lord Finesse
2. Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop – Diamond D
3. Lifestyles Ov Da Poor and Dangerous – Big L
4. Runaway Slave – Showbiz & AG
5. Represent – Fat Joe
Damn, Represent made Robbie’s list. I love it, but most people can’t tolerate Joe’s early style.
Represent is especially notable for containing ‘You Must Be Out Your Fucking Mind’ which is the only time G Rap spit over a Diamond beat.
@Slappy White – Yeah, Show really went out there with the sample sources on Goodfellas. The Altered States score, Delia Derbyshire…I do love the production on that album. Finesse’s beat for “Add On” is lovely too.
“Word Life” obviously is a certified A-class album. One of the Big 5 that came out in ’94, with that great freshman class that solidified the East Coast’s re-birth: Nas, Biggie, Jeru, Keith Murray & OC. However, OC wasn’t officially a member of the crew during his first album.
@ab: I found OC’s debut to be a bit patchy overall. The great songs are incredible (‘O-Zone’ in particular), but then it loses steam with some of the weaker tracks (‘Born 2 Live’ original and that weird song about the family getting kidnapped).
O.C. started out with Organized Konfusion and was down with Serchlite before meeting Finesse and Buckwild, so he’s always been the black sheep of official DITC members. And his style has always irritated me; he’s like Pharoahe Monch lite.
Always loved this beat!
