I REMEMBER WHEN THE RAWKUS GUYS HEARD G RAP ON THE MOBB DEEP JOINT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT HIM LIKE HE WAS A BRAND NEW ARTIST AND EVERYONE THEY TALKED TO ABOUT IT WAS LOOKING AT THEM LIKE THEY JUST LANDED FROM THE MOON. IN MY OPINION IN GENERAL THE RAWKUS DUDES GET A BUM WRAP THEY INVESTED A TON OF CORPORATE BACKING IN TO ARTISTS WHO NEVER EVER EVER WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A LOOK FROM THE MAJORS AND GAVE THEM CAREERS. ALSO I THINK IT IS STRANGE THAT THE MIKE HERON GUY CRAPS ON RAWKUS ON EVERY OCCASION AS IF HE DIDNT TAKE A CHECK FROM THE COMPANY AND WORK ON OTHER PROJECTS AND EVEN PUT HIS GHETTO PROS SHIT OUT THROUGH THAT COMPANY. EVERYONE IS SO QUICK TO POINT FINGERS. REGARDLESS THIS ALBUM WAS LIKE A SLOW MOTION CAR ACCIDENT AND ANYONE WHO WAS AROUND FOR IT KNEW IT WAS NOT GONNA END WELL.
G raps album fell hard as he couldnt repeat the original formula. God only knkws what the neptunes beat could have brought to the game. Maybe poor management is to blame. Too many cooks in the kitchen is a running theme aint it?
salute robbie! and the anti ‘nathaniel’ army: you are all welcome…
btw. it’s kinda funny how every party talks some complete different stuff.
Was thinking EGO but “hubris” sounds about right.
Wouldn’t G Rap known Buckwild from recording two tracks with him on 4,5,6?. That Buck beat was very much like ‘Woah’ so not a bad thing it just didn’t hit the streets as hard as Black Rob’s classic.
That Pharrell part made me cringe.
Funny how you have one guy saying Pharell trying to give G Rap some ‘corny commercial record’, while G Rap saying he was trying to get a Neptune-type beat but Pharell was trying to do that.
*wasn’t
Who on Rawkus should have never been signed? Mos def? Talib? Even some of the leaser known cats was ill…
Fantastic article.
@jay – Talib def should’ve never been signed. Duke is garbage. Other garbage artist include High and Mighty and the Smut Peddlers. The only good albums they put out were with artists that were already legit.
Tbh…i dont see how talib is garbage…he can spit…tbh..i only heard one high and mighty song and new took the time to check the Smut peddlers. ..but talib nice…if he was talking hard stuff u might feel…i see him as more native tongue…not feeling him as far as the trap beats i hear him on every now and than…or the lil wayne co sign…but love the black starr album and other stuff he put out…
Thanks for that – good read. Never copped this album. At the time I remember people saying it was pretty average.
Have to admit when I saw the title kool g rap – oral history my first
thought was superhead !
Im confused as fuck. GRap says he Wanted a modern (wack) Neptunes beat but the Happy guy wanted to give him an Ill
street blues type record..Heron says the opposite about the Virginia situation..
And damn I love the Nature album but he seems to get sonned more then P lol…
I wonder how much Buck gets now a beat. 25 grand, damn, thats that post Whoah money i guess. The Streets track was dope though..
Never fucked with the album but i fucks with all the singles..
