Sadly I do not own this VHS tape.
I recently copped the Music On Vinyl 2LP pressing of the immortal Penicillin On Wax, thinking it would be great to give my battered old copy a rest and enjoy the wisdom of Timothy Blair in all of it’s wide-grooved glory. Imagine my shock and horror when I discovered that he’d also been a victim of the infamous uncleared samples curse and had re-recorded two tracks with new or replayed beats…
Understandable that Ruffhouse changed them back in 1991 but surely this re-press (which was limited to 1,000 copies) could have used the original versions on some ol’ ‘promotional purposes only’ tip? Surely there must be some kind of amnesty where you can just sneak the real versions of songs back out there once 25 years has passed?
‘Intro’ [No Isaac Hayes Version]
I’ll Wax Anybody [No Nautilus Version]
‘I’ll Wax Anybody’ [original version]
While we’re at it, some kind soul ripped that 7″ of Tim Dog demos recorded in 1990, both of which are great:
Tim Dog was butt cheex, yo…
Was it ever confirmed Tim Dog is actually dead?
2nd verse on Bronx Nigga is Tim Dog at his finest.
So the vinyl reissue is basically using the same master as the second CD pressing from the early 90’s? Luckily, the CD I found a couple years back is an original pressing with samples in tact.
I think it’s a similar case with all (or most) reissues of Bizarre Ride; all use the video mix of “Passin’ Me By” and the alternate “I’m That Type Of” instead of the originals from the first pressing.
