‘Crooklyn Dodgers’?
Both great but they were put out on twelve inch so don’t qualify.
damn I was working on a similar comp. . .had a few of the same songs and everything. Great minds. . .
Nice list, but
OK / OC – “You Won’t Go Far” is on 12 Inch on the “New Jersey Drive Sampler” EP TB671
Large Pro – “The Rap World” is on 12 Inch on the High School High EP DMD 2307
PS I’d add 2Pac “Definition Of A Thug Nigga” to the playlist – another one on a 12″ though….
‘Let Me At Em’ by Rwbel INS, on Tales From Tha Hood is hella dope, when he was at his peak in 95…
Haha, Rebel
Ain’t been able to open the last 5 zippy files Robbie

@Peeet: A vinyl EP sampler isn’t a ‘commercial single release’ though.
@Syk: Do you have WinRar installed?
Haha was thinking of that Puba joint directly. Even bought that ep just for that.
What about the Heiro joint “Get the girl” from A Low down dirty shame movie.
Also Pandemonium by The Pharcyde From the Street Fighter movie.
Fixed it good looking out fam
State Property – It’s Not Right. idgaf. I like it
Would replace definition of a thug by pac with troublesome from how to be a player and ol dirty bastard back with the song from hoodlum.
I think he meant that these songs were not released as singles on vinyl (so being on an Extended play on vinyl is not the same)
‘The Substitute’ is the funniest film compilation of all, with a whole gang of B-Grade West Coast rappers, with the exception of Ras Kass, and then the almighty OK ‘Bring It On (Remix)’ smacks you in the face with supreme dopeness…
Hey Robbie, what is your vote for best soundtrack? I’m going with Juice. Some of the earlier soundtracks were cool but these things went off the rails as the 90’s wore on. Always a hidden gem to found here and there tho
@hotbox: I played the shit out of my Juice and Menace II Society tapes when they first came out, but I might have to go with Trespass since it gave us Black Sheep, MADD Circle, Lord Finesse and Donald D on the same LP.
Agree with the above. As someone stated earlier, ‘Soul In The Hole’ was well compiled too, for the jiggy-era it played within…
Yeah, “well compiled” is a great way to say that. A lot of those joints were on the artist’s albums, but as a compilation (especially late 90s era when the mainstream was getting waaay too flossy) it was really good.
Fav jam on Robbie’s mix is Kam – Every Single Weekend. That song is sooo dope. That beat is some gangsta ass funk magic. Built to drive to. One of the biggest brightspots on the Boyz N the Hood OST, followed by the 2 Live Crews’s fucking fantastic “Hangin Out”.
@Robbie Trespass is up there you’re right. It also has the last great Ice T song.
honorable mentions:
Casual “Later on” – Remix!
Kid Capri ft. Brand Nubian & Diamond D

WHY 2 PAC??? No real Hip-Hop Cat was listening to his pop music bullshit!!!!
“definition of a thug nigga”????? Like his fake ass would know lol. That shit is SO Corny!
@ishot2pac: That was the first time I heard the ‘Wind Parade’ loop so it gets a pass. Rodney Dangerfield could have been rapping on it and it still would have come off.
Black Sheep “Off The Wall” would be the chart topper on my list, followed by “Come Widdit” … and wasn’t Grand Puba’s “Black Family Day” also part of a soundtrack?
@kool max power: “Pump ya fist” was not a soundtrack. It was a compilation of rap songs “inspired by” the Black Panther movement and marketed as a companion piece to the actual soundtrack for the movie “Panther.” If you’re gonna count that, you might also want to consider the rap-oriented CD compilations put out in association with TV shows such as “Oz” and “Celebrity Death Match.”
The Darc Mind joint was second to none. The shelved album, was just as interesting in hindsight
@Dino: yeah, you’re right, now I remember … think I got an EP with the Grand Pu contribution, “Frustrated N***a” and a nice KRS-1 track, can’t remember the title…
@3BM-Ark: How can I forget “Visions Of Blur” by Darc Mind? It’s so dope! The shelved album was solid too, same goes for both EPs Dope Folks released a couple of years ago…
Another track that should be part of Robbie’s list is Cella Dwellas’ “Main Aim”…
Cella Dwellas included ‘Main Aim’ on their second album…admittedly three years later.
I’ve always liked ‘Live Wires Connect’ from the Don’t Be a Menace soundtrack. I’d buy that on 12″ in a second. Lord Jamar is a totally underrated producer.
re Darc Mind: #FunFact They’re shelved album only saw the light of day because of Anticon Records.
You can still get it direct from:
https://xraydamindbenda.bandcamp.com/album/symptomatic-of-a-greater-ill
Dope compilation. There a whole lot of contenders for a part II as well.
Down Wit Us – Redman from the How To Be A Player Soundtrack.
The Whole Wildstyle Soundtrack.
epmd – it’s going down (juice sdtrk)
All valid points.But for Me
Casuals “Later On” remix is
My favorite.Beat is simple and banging.Casuals lyrics are when dude was a beast! Xtra Saucy East Bay Style!
