Robbie, my dearest brother, my sweetest brethren, my chillest bruh.
On behalf of the community I want to congratulate you with your new career and direction in life.
Let me warn you, it can be rough behind the desk, but remember, so is wiping your ass 3-4 times a day, especially when you don’t have any paper left. Best wishes
Peace Robbie. That was a great read! And it’s so true. Sad.
Unsung heroes…
My mic is sounding bugged, Bob Power you there? Adjust my bass and treble, make my shit sound clear.

“Turn my snare up” by Eminem was one of the worst ad libs in the history of music. It spawned an era of music where the artist started the song with telling the engineer what to do.
I feel like Hip Hop’s clurring of lines between musician/producer/engineer is another carry over from Dub.
Come on Mister Engineer get it right, get it right. Come on Mister Engineer get it right, get it right. Coz if you don’t, if you don’t, now if you don’t.
Great article, Robbie. And I totally agree with you re: Marley. It’s unfortunate that a lot of cats are taking that knee-jerk “Marley didn’t produce those records!” because of his artists supplying the records, but his touch and sound is so distinctive that I find it impossible to believe that Marley didn’t have any creative say in how those tracks got hooked up. And as you’ve pointed out before, when dudes like Kane and Biz started self-producing after the Juice Crew demise, the sound was very different from what they did when Marley was behind the boards. The man had a sound, and regardless of who was bringing in the sources, the man earned his spot as one of the best producers to ever do it: it’s all there in the sonics.

No songs about studio engineers spring to mind….but here’s one about sound engineers at gigs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyzK9IRoOrY
