After a highly scientific process involving going to the pub and eating Vietnamese take-out, I’ve finally determined my favourite eighteen Mobb Deep songs at this exact point in time. Resisting the urge to focus too heavily on their peak period, I’ve attempted to include something from all of their albums over the years to provide the full picture of Havoc and Prodigy’s contributions to the Quuensbridge rap game.
While the earlier violent, anti-social and thoroughly cold-hearted material struck a cord with me, the diminutive duo also exhibited a knack for catchy fare later in their career. Havoc in particular shone brightest when he experimented with unusual sound effects on songs such as ‘Trife Life’ and ‘Nighttime Vultures,’ whilst the Alchemist would later provide some of the Mobb’s most convincing anthems as time wore on. Take it in blood, indeed.

BACKWARDS IS MY SHIT!!!
Glad to see ‘Hold Down The Fort’ on here, although i’d add ‘Hit It From The Back’ to the list
” live nigga rap “… From the ” infamous ” album, featuring Nas…that shit is fire….
Shook Ones Part II still packs the bleakest of punches for street knowledge rap and remains a timeless classic. Never imitated.
What!!what about drink away the pain
@Alphabeta: ‘Live Nigga Rap’ was meant to be on Hell On Earth but was used on the second Nas album instead, so it’s now technically a Mobb Deep feature.
@King Timeo: Didn’t want to use too many songs from that same LP.
Thats a great shot at a list that would’ve been almost impossible to put together, the Mobb catalogue is one of hip hop’s greatest. I would’ve added Drink Away The Pain and Quiet Storm – it’s gotta be up with Apostle’s Warning as one of P’s finest performances.. And maybe one of those left-field Mobb joints like Modus Operandi or Hoodlum.. Nice work Rob.
Got it Twisted.
@Robbie
Good job man… i wish kats would just appreciate the effort instead of where’s this track, why not this, how could you not include that. Faaaaaq… never fails on these Salute’s of late!
What nothing from Murda Muzik??? Wow! Some of Prodigy’s best work! USA Aiight then.
@JReynolds: ‘The Realest’ was off MM, plus ‘Thrill Me’ is from the original bootleg version.
THE RAY ALLEN AND PAUL PIERCE OF RAP, BRINGING THAT HEAT FOR YEARS AFTER THEIR PEERS HAD FALLEN OFF OR DIMINISHED.
Right on man. Thug muzik, Aiight then, Quiet storm original (not the pop Lil Kim Remix)and Adrenaline are some of their all-time best tracks. Even with HNIC the group never reached this level again IMO.
@Carlos That Street Life w/ ACD.
My bad….you right….it was on nas’ second album… Blame it on the Belgian beer ! Ahahahaah.
Difficult task and matter of opinion and all but… STILL SHINING?!
it’s essentially Shook Ones pt 3 and it’s possibly their best track
Word Rob weekend whip mix sorted.
If you ate Chinese take out instead of Vietnamese maybe Peer Pressue from Juvenile Hell would of made the list.
Great comp Robbie, thanks for NOT including Drink Away The Pain, sore thumb track on the album imo.
Lifetime = excellent late-period mobb choice
thanks. I pumped the infamous heavily but lost track of em after that until getting into P’s solo stuff some years back (HNIC 2 from memory)… this should be a good catch up, appreciate your efforts.
Good list with an interesting selection through their career. Where is Cobra though? One of their best. I’ve was always disappointed that it wasn’t on any of their albums (“Infamous Archives” doesn’t count).
No “The Roof” w: Mariah Carey???
The Mobb got one the best discographys in hip hop Havoc is one the best producers around ‘I Want Out’ off Prodigys HNIC2 album prolly my fav track they did the last 10 years
Every hip hop fan should just go buy Infamous, Hell On Earth and Murda Muzik 3 classics of grimey New York street bars against a dark incredible soundtrack. Even Amerikas Knightmare and Blood Money are fire albums and their least liked album Infamy has got loads of bangers Get Away, The Learning,I Wont Fall, Pray For Me, Crawlin…..
RIP P!!!
