By popular demand – and because there were so many tracks that I had to leave off the first volume – here’s part two of the nineties edition of Non-Album B-Sides. Thanks to everyone who suggested some of the stuff that I forgot about the first time around, and I hope you appreciate that I’ve had to dip into whiny west coast alternative rap in order to fill up the track list! Next up – the eighties version.

Yes, another dope list, thanks! Could have included Gravediggaz Freak the Sorceress instead of the whiny west coast shit you mentioned, lol
Looking good, another quality compilation…
Eye Examination? Hell yeah!!!
@DOC SHRUTE I BET YOURE EUROPEAN HUH?
You’re the man!
@dick slipmat nope, Brick City Newark NJ why would you say Europe?
@DOC SHRUTE BECAUSE A LOT OF EUROPEAN RAP FANS HAVE THIS AUTOMATIC BIAS AGAINST ANY RAP THAT ISNT FROM NY OR THE SURROUNDING AREA. SHOUTOUT TO THE BRICKS THOUGH. I USED TO BUY THE WORST “WEED” IN THE WORLD ON HAWTHORN AVENUE. PROBABLY TOOK TEN YEARS OFF MY LIFE.
Mobb Deep “Shook Ones Pt.1”
Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Don’t You Know Pt.2”
Del The Funky Homosapien “Burnt” feat. A-Plus, Opio, Tajai & Casual
Casual “Rock On”
De La Soul “What Yo Life Can Truly Be”
KMD “Gasface Refill”
Supreme thanks for this. I never knew a bunch of these joints existed.
That “whiny west coast” music on here is dope though. That Dr. Dre track “Puffin on Blunts….” is the sh*t !!
I can’t lie from about 1990 to 1999 I only fucked with East Coast hip hop. I guess that stems from growing up so close to NYC. Since then my stance has mellowed but I still never got into Casual, Del, Souls of Mischief etc. and I think that is what Robbie is referring to in a kinda, sorta (but maybe not) tongue-in-cheek manner.
@mo sides: I didn’t include ‘Gasface Refill’ since it was a bonus track on the ‘Mr Hood’ CD.
The whiny stuff I mentioned was referring to Hiero and Pharcyde, who have dope beats but voices like nails on a chalkboard.
Before I forget I gotta mention two more. Big Pun Wishful Thinking and the ridiculously slept on ODB Give it to ya raw SD50 mix (not to be confused with Baby I like it raw, completely different song) which was the b-side to Brooklyn Zoo.
@Robbie i thought u were referring to Dr Dre’s synths
Essays on BDPism would have been a great B side, alas it was on a Jive compilation tape and was never exploited as a B side on a BDP album. Pity, as it’s one of BDP’s all time greatest tunes.
Product of the Environment (remix) 3rd Bass might be a good B side, as it was on the B side of the remix EP.
Enjoy Yourself- Broadway, produced by Diamond D
The B Side Wins Again- Public Enemy (not the dreadful edit on “Fear of a Black Planet” but the B side to the 12″ “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos”)
@Andrew essays on BDPism was dope and I always considered it a “throwback” b-side because it appeared on my BDP Duck Down cd single. From what I understand it also appeared on some versions of the I’m still #1 vinyl single although I never owned it.
@Doc
Both versions of Give It To Ya Raw was ill! RZA’s mix was dirtier.
@Andrew
PE always ruined the mystique of their B-sides by throwing them on the following albums (Rebel…B-Side…, Get The F*ck Outta Dodge, etc.)
@Andrew I always thought 3 strikes 5000 was the great unreleased b side on that third bass twelve.
But does not meet the criteria as they went and put it on the next album (& The remix album too iirc).
I used to go ape Shit for Richie rich’s scratches on that track!
… also meant to say I Do not think the remix of an album track meets robbies criteria either.
The Marley marl remix you speak of was killer too though!
@Andrew “Essays on BDPism” was released in 88, this list is for the ’90’s.
@Andrew “B-Side Wins Again” was ’89 also.
Fair points, Sean. I was just drunk off all these great memories, when your money was plonked down and more often than not, you got a top quality product that stood the test of time. Such a shame that the youth have such little sense of history. Everything is too available. It was so much more a pleasure when you had to hunt for the music, especially when it had a limited pressing. Ah, such good days.
dope joints man. I was never a fan of It’s not a game. BTW you left out Hemmin Heads by Mic Geronimo
@Andrew yes mate. All too true.
Robbie has still to post the ’80’s collection so there’s still a chance for both to appear.
And I predict that will require at least 2 volumes as well! (nods in Robbies direction)
Awesome! Love this comp.
You’re probably sick of being bugged about songs you left off, but WC had 3 b-side bangers from the 90’s:
Low Profile – Playing for Keeps (from the “Funky Song” 12″)
WC & The Maad Circle – Hood Rat (from the “Ghetto Serenade 12”)
WC & The Maad Circle – Hit the Ground (from the “West Up” 12″)
Oops, I messed up the last link:
WC & The Maad Circle – Hit the Ground
And oddly, this is only available on the CD single of “West Up.”
