No Country For Old (Rap) Men: Too white for Kendrick, not white enough for Bronson?

Damn Robbie, you got a lot of hate for that No Pressure album. Two mentions this week. Granted, it is not great. But it has a few worth while moments.
@turtle: Every record that I wasted money on when I was a kid still haunts me to this day. Import LP’s cost $22 back then!
I picked it up on cassette for under $8. No pressure.
We were in a similar situation in the UK in the 90s – plenty of import CDs, even in HMV, but they were usually £18-25 ($28-40 (USD) or $40-55 (AUD)), compared to the £12-15 of a UK release (it was only the more obscure albums that didn’t get official releases here).
The bonus was that they accepted returns/exchanges back then because hardly anybody had the capability to copy CDs.
Fuck HMV I’m glad them bastards are struggling now, they ripped of music lovers for decades!
There is something to be said for how easy it is to consume music and media now versus how it used to be. Patton Oswalt had a great riff on The Watchmen, and how when it came out, it was one issue a month for a year. You read and re-read the issues, talked about them with fans at the comic book store, etc. Now, you can download the whole thing to your phone in less than a minute and read it over lunch. I’m not saying one way is better than the other, but it definitely changes how we think about things. Especially because it used to be that someone who listened to a thousand albums really was more knowledgeable. Now everyone has, so everyone thinks they are just as knowledgeable and have great taste because of it and I just don’t see it. But again, I’m old. CRC Certified.
Serious journalism, I like it. I lived in Australia for a year in 1995. I was amazed at how expensive vinyl was, and that was after purchasing No Pressure in 1993.
Great article!
Damn no pressure wasn’t that bad. Boom bap at its purist.
