Unlike Cold Crush Brother‘s ‘Punk Rock Rap,’ this vaulted Cosmic Force entry into the ‘punk rap’ canon is redeemed by a lack of fake cockney accents, the always reliable vocoder and the fact that it interpolates Michael McDonalds’ ‘I Keep Forgetting‘ 13 years before Dr. Dre’s stepbrother Warren G enlisted Nate Dogg to give it that extra ‘G’ quality.

So that’s where that “Bango, Bango, bango” off of Todd Terry’s House classic come from?
Great post BTW, Robbie.
Nice find! You guys gotta do an article on some rare bootleg joints floating around. People are posting gems on soundcloud, but gotta do alot of diggin to find em!
Great reding on past tuff city stuff, ultimate breaks, etc.. leaves me hungry for more…
Keep it up!
“Michael McDonalds’ ‘I Keep Forgetting‘ 13 years before Dr. Dre’s stepbrother”
I bet Warren thought he was the sh@t when he used that melody.
Arthur Russell must have taken/nicked the “Go Bang/Bango” lyric first for Dinosaur L’s Go Bang, still interesting to know where it came from.
Cosmic Force (MC Sabu, Lisa Lee, Baby Bigs) did not get the melody from Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin”. Cosmic Punk Jam was written and recorded in right around 1981 while “I Keep Forgettin” was released in 1982. How do I know you ask? My father is MC Sabu. I also grew up in Throggs Neck where many of the artist in Cosmic Force and Soul Sonic Force(Ikey Cee/Ice Ice, Chubby Chub) are from. With all that said, these artist deserve their credit for being originators of a sound and a style that artist still pick from and people still appreciate.
