A little earlier I took a nice hour long drive listening to this album from start to finish on CD. I like it for the most part and feel it’ll definitely grow on me. Love the few “Tribe” sounding joints that you’d expect, but don’t care for some other joints, a few which I’d totally remove from the album. Their not horrible, but their mos definitely not my taste at all! Then there’s a few songs that have good beats but maybe the song goes on too long or there’s some singing that’s kinda ehhh. Like I said, I know this is gonna grow on me but I do like it. It’s WAY BETTER then that De La Soul shit show from a few months ago. Oh and Phife sounds great on here! Jarobi is cool on a few joints, but doesn’t sound so good on a few others. The Kendrick Lamar joint is cool… he sounds good on it too cuz he’s not doin that alien sounding voice. haha And Consequence sounds great on here. Busta’s cool too. *shrugs*
Favorite joints…
01 The Space Program
03 Whateva Will Be (ft. Consequence)
16 The Donald (ft. Busta Rhymes)
15 Ego
Songs I dislike and think should be removed…
02 We The People
04 Solid Wall of Sound
08 Enough!!
And check it out, I just worked on MY version of this album where I removed those 3 songs and moved a few others around. Now the album sounds a lot better! haha

Btw Robbie, nice review. I agree with most of what you said. Also, that’s KanYe singing on the song with Talib & Consequence…
Happy to hear the above comments. Gives me some hope.
That image you used from inside low end theory is a classic .had to be one of the defining images from my childhood.
Im on my 2nd listen and now that the high of new Tribe has worn off I kinda see it like Robbie does. Some of it feels like The Renaissance. Kanye should’ve gave a verse. Could’ve replaced him with Yasiin Bey. They should’ve did more jams like The Space Program. I expected more scratches from Ali Shaheed. I like the moment of silence for Phife on Lost Somebody.
Sounds like a updated version of “People’s Instinctive Travels…” mixed with some Kanye/punk rock shit.
Not heard it yet but looking forward to hearing it over the weekend.
I loved that group as a 16 year old kid & I still love em now as a (supposedly) responsible (ha!) adult.
Whatever the magic is that certain groups or artists have Tribe definitely had it.
R.I.P Phife & Leonard Cohen.
This bitch of a year, 2016, continues!
On the strength of your review ie of ‘Space Program’ Robbie, i actually feel encouraged to listen to this. Sounds like predictably a patchy affair though for fans of the first three albums.
Looking forward to hearing the whole thing but from the clips I heard, it already sounds better than that shitty ‘The Love Movement’ album they did.
Much better than expected, a very enjoyable listen with a couple of missteps.
I am very pleasantly surprised by how good the new Tribe LP sounds.
If only the new De La had sounded something like this…
It was alright.
This is almost as disappointing as De La album.
Strange week. First trump. Now Unkut mentions consequence without the phrase weed carrier. What next?
Can anyone (Robbie or anyone reading this) tell me how yall would rate this album against their previous work? Im excluding their remix album from 93, but it sounds like its on par with the Love Movement or slightly better??
ATCQ’s final LP is the “The Force Awakens” of rap LPs. A decent re-tread of previous ideas but never manages to escape (unfavourable) comparison with the original trilogy. It could have easily done without everything from “Movin backwards” on (4 tracks of pure filler). The good tracks go on waaaaaaay too long. What’s that cheap-ass snare roll/retrigger effect on “lost somebody?” Kanye, Kendrick et al didn’t annoy me half as much as Busta Rhymes.
It’s been more than a minute since I’ve seen Saturday Night Live, but tonight ATCQ is performing and Chappelle is hosting. Definitely some must-see stuff.
If you are disappointed in this album, it’s you’re fault. Time and time again when it’s announced that an “OLDer School” artist is going to release a new album, most people get excited and can’t wait to hear it. But guess what happens? They blame the artist for not sounding like they used to sound back in the day.
Why do you do this to yourself?
If you don’t have any positive expectations you won’t disappoint yourself again.
Yes, I am a pessimist.
Sounds like a q-tip album featuring members of atcq and others. (Busta is very annoying or here and wud have been tolerated if he appeared 1nce instead of 4 times.
Malmoe agree on “q-tip album featuring members of atcq and others”. That was the case with past ATCQ alums too though I guess (but not to the same extent).
Can’t help but wonder if they really recorded everything they wanted to before the passing of Phife. And how different it would sound if he was still around.
Sounds like one or two are leftovers from the kamaal the abstract and renaissance albums.
Still I am enjoying it, if a little disjointed a listen.
Some good tracks, a few average and 2/3 skippables. Q Tip is still very good at rapping. Busta sounds awful.
I’ll just keep listening to Reject2 thanks.
Fucking Classic!!!!! Album is retarded!!!! Fuck what you Heard.
I enjoy the album a lot. I was glad they released it in the fashion that they did, where there wasn’t enough time to set unrealistic expectations too high or low and without leaking a ton of material before we heard the whole thing. Forced me to listen straight through to something for what it was. I like that the album has it’s own kind of feel without veering far from the vibe that tribe is known for. It sounded like a proper closing statement from the group. Dope to hear Jarobi’s inclusion on this project and there was enough material from Phife where we can feel fortunate that this was in the works before his passing. It definitely has shades of The Renaissance within it, but Tribe albums have always kinda been steered my Q-Tip’s sound as he generally handled the majority of production. This to me feels more like an exit album I could feel satisfied with in comparison to the Love Movement (which I didn’t hate or love).
Oneam and Malmoe are on point. Exactly what it seems. I haven’t felt the need to get past Melatonin. Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe it will grow.
@DialTone: Glad you’re enjoying it but it may be a little early to crown anything as ‘classic’ after less than a week.
I remember reading that Jarobi had verses on low end theory that were canned when he decided to leave the group. Hearing this album makes me wanna hear some of those unreleased recodings.
I feel u though. This sounds like a Qtip solo joint or a compilation album.
I listened to the whole thing uninterrupted twice and I have no desire to ever listen to it again. Annoying vocal effects, jarring samples, over-produced tracks that could have been way better stripped down and last but not least an unhealthy dose of singing all contribute to this album being a steaming hot mess. Basically a middle finger to anyone who wanted something more like their 2nd and 3rd albums where they basically perfected hip hop. I still love them though, RIP Phife.
Whateva Will Be is one if the best things they’ve ever done.
