Reezy Re just can’t seem to hold it back, much like a young Kevin Madison.
Had some spare time and made another Source Fat Tape for May … Not much mixing on here due to track order.. rediscovered some bangers i forgot all about along with murder squad (South central gun cartel and friends..BO$$, Ice T and Treach on this) . Thanks to Rob @Unkut and Del, Twitter crew…
Thanks all new followers on here i m glad you found me… don’t curse…
Trife life – Mobb Deep
No Peace – Murder squad
Lettin Ziggas Know – Threat
Rawhide- ODB
Among the walking dead – Scarface and facemob
Wanna make moves – Red Hot Lover Tone
Super N*%$@ – King Tee

The Loc is on his own – Jayo felony
Lick off a shot – Rotten raskals
One Less Zigga – Mc Eiht

Hearing that Threat again…how did that dude fall-off so hard between his first album in 1994 and this shit?
I like that track. But not sure why Red Hot Lover Tone is on there. He was always a cornball, one of them rap lite rappers bordering on Young MC territory.
No way, the #1 Player LP by Red Hot Lover Tone was a dope example on how to make a smooth pimpish record without sounding corny. Production was tight and I kinda liked his flow. Plus it had that posse-cut with M.O.P. and Biggie on it which was a straight banger. His other album was trash though.
There was a moment in time when it seemed mandatory for people at The Source to include at least two or three tracks from soundtracks in the Fat Tape. I used to trust the mag a lot back in the days so I went and copped many of those and always ended up disappointed (except maybe for Juice and New Jersey Drive).
So Robbie, how about making a post on best Hip-Hop soundtracks songs of all time?
@ceedub: Best rap soundtracks
Streetfighter
Judgment Night
Bulworth
Training Day
Dangerous Ground
@Ceedub: Good idea.
@Dino: I’d say Juice, High School High, Menace II Society and New Jersey Drive.
“Chain Remains” dope beat, dope concept with inmates, one of NBN’s better tracks
@ceedubb I may have gotten this mixed up with Redhead Kingpin. I’ll have to revisit this one.
The entire Poverty’s Paradise was great. Treach was killing every beat. Vin Rock stepped it up too. Only songs I thought were wack were the 2 singles, Craziest and Feel Me Flow.
The red vinyl was dope. Very humorous effort from Tone!
Couple of Minnesota beats on that NBN as well. First three NBN albums are all excellent to solid.
Nobody’s mentioned the Soul In The Hole soundtrack yet? Definitely front-to-back great.
Best Hip-Hop Soundtrack Songs:
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth – “One In A Million”
Biggie – “Party & Bullshit”
Eric B. & Rakim – “Know The Ledge”
Pete Rock & Large Pro – “Rap World”
A Tribe Called Quest – “Hot Sex”
OutKast – “Benz Or Beamer”
Brand Nubian – “Lick Dem Muthaphuckas”
Sauce Money – “Against The Grain”
Mobb Deep – “Back At You”
Red & Meth – “How High”
Lord Finesse – “You Know What I’m About”
Mic Geronimo – “Unstoppable”
Tha Alkaholiks – “Coast II Coast”
Jay-Z – “Who You Wit”
Ahmad, Ras Kass, Saafir – “Come Widdit”
De La Soul – “Channel No. Fever”
Dogg Pound – “What Would U Do?”
My top 10 Rap soundtracks* would be:
10: Blade
9: Alpha Dog
8: Dangerous Ground
7: High School High
6: NWH: Fear of a black hat
5: Bulworth
4: Training Day
3: he got game
2: Judgment Night
1: Streetfighter
*When I say “Rap soundtrack” I mean albums comprising songs specifically commissioned for the movie (as opposed to compilations of existing songs).
11: Slam.
More great soundtrack cuts:
Nas – “Halftime”
Main Source – “Fakin’ The Funk”
Slick Rick – “I Sparkle”
Trigga Tha Gambler, Smoothe Da Hustler, D.V. Alias Khrist – “My Crew Can’t Go For That”
E Bros. – “Funky Piano”
Queen Latifah & Nikki D – “Name Callin'”
Grand Puba – “Fat Rat”
Fat Joe – “I’m Tryin’ To Tell ‘Em”
@Paul H: Nice picks, some of those will be on my Best Rap Soundtrack Songs comp which I’m working on tonight over a sixer of Guinness cans.
After Eric B & Rakim’s “Juice (Know The Ledge)” and EPMD’s “It’s Going Down”, “E Bros. – “Funky Piano” is the greatest track from a soundtrack for me personally.
My fave OST joints are ‘Gotta Get Over (Taking Loot)’, by Gangstarr from the Trespass OST, tied with the classic ‘Colors’ by Tracey Marrow and Afrika Islam…
Obviously Colors is the GOAT OST song
Nice pick on that Gang Start. The Squeeze on the Training Day OST is official tissue too.
*Gang Starr (gotdam auto correct)
MC Ren “May Day On The Frontline” from CB4 OST is better than the album version.
Also mentioned on a previous post Council “We’re On Top Of Thangs” from the Black Mask OST is a great track too.
WHo remembers Brand Nubian’s Brand Nubian “Lick Dem Muthaphuckas”? Very odd track from them.
From Menace II Society, but also from the BB album Everything Is Everything. Not my fave Bran Nu but dope song.
Dont sleep on the Soul In The Hole soundtrack either
Different versions though of course. Te soundtrack version is a classic, they slowed it down for Everything is Everything.
Those CORNY WEST COAST GROUPS LOL!!!!!!!!! Oh Shit were they wack as a motherfucker!!!!!!!!!! With the exception of King T & Threat.
NO HIP-HOP NIGGAS WAS LISTENING TO E-40 LOLLLLLLLLLL!
Crime Boss? Really? If that wack ass name wasn’t screaming for attention lol……So So Wack. Perm wearing no lyrics having fake gansta rappers lol.
Thank God for the East Coast!!!!!
No offence but this is the wackest tape ever made.
1995 was the greatest year of the decade, anyway I have never waited on a magasine to buy an album or lp.
There is nothing wrong about Sick Wid It Records until about the 9-tre – some innovative shit was produced, far from G-funk…
That Crime Boss album from 94 was on some RAL vibe, 3.5mics
Crime Boss gets a pass only because he rocked the fedora on top of a jherri curl. Do any of you know how hard that is to pull off?
@Mr Lo–You are 100% right about this tape and 1995. In fact, as far as the greatest years for hip hop music, it goes like this:
1988
1989
1995
1996
1994
