Speaking of Canibus – I know the current a capella battle rap scene is a major CRC human rights violation, but Canibus has made a memorable meltdown at one of the events. He also got paid $100,000 to participate, though. The CRC tax was extracted
@grandgroove – I saw that King Of The Dot video too. Sometimes battlers choke and need jump to the next set of bars but I’ve never seen anything like that.
Some of the battlers at KotD and Grind Time are amazing MCs and have great wit to devise the written rhymes and then flip mid-battle.
I took down Ghostfaces video as an mp3, it works great as a diss-record.
Made me go out n cop all the latest Ghost joints I been sleeping on on vinyl
How can ab battle Ghost when he clearly bit portions of his sound.
Patiently waiting on BC3. Fuck a 12 reasons to die.
he didnt get 100,000 though , unforuately for him
good write up Robbie. my personal opinion reflecting this issue of creative diss records today, basically comes down to the lack of hip hop history these new heads have. the new generation emcees lack fundamental structures which was laid out by the pioneers of hip hop culture (Flash F5, Cold Crush, Spoonie Gee..etc). there was a sense of true respect when it came down to the emcees of the golden era of hip hop (86-92). the respect was shown by the DJ’s, Producers and Emcees of that that era whether it came from a way a record was cut or scratched, a beat flipped on a SP1200 or by an emcee giving props to his verbal influence by creating an original style. back then you can microscope a real artist by DNA, today it’s just a bunch of clones. Ghostface is 100% correct for defending himself and his pen game history that he built for himself. the days of getting thrown of stages is over, today we sit back and read up on rappers twitter trolling timelines. I used to love H.E.R.
So if the tradition is all but dead … Must be time for a salute to the best of dis records comp. (Non subtle hint).
