When I found this version of ‘Can I Live’ on a Stretch Armstrong Show recording from 1997, complete with some abrasive Jimi Hendrix guitar chops, I was expecting B.R. to close off the song the same way he did on the retail mix. Turns out this was originally a L.O.X. song with Rob on the hook, which Bad Boy remade into a fair more relaxed Boardroom Bap version (with an added rap from Black Rob) for his Life Story album – not to be confused with the song of the same name on Money, Power and Respect which has completely different raps.1
- A visibly faded Jadakiss explains here that after they parted ways with the label and returned their shiny suits to the wardrobe department, Bad Boy decided to keep it in the safe until they could find a use for it three years later. [↩]
nice find. The Bad Boy 12″ of Can I Live includes an acapella that has a different Black Rob verse to the actual track
@step one: Cheers, I need to track that down.
Love the rawness of that beat but I think the album version captures the essence better.
Very nice find indeed. Here’s the alternate version with the album beat and the different Black Rob verse Step One is (I suppose) talking about:

@Teezmeister: Cheers. Can you please re-up somewhere? Mediafire already kilt it.
Still works for me. Try this:
