Back in the early days of Twitter, I complained about how DEZ interrupted KASE2 from rapping so that he could recite a bit of ‘The Message’ in Style Wars. The Drama King was frankly appalled that anyone would bring that up thirty years later, which is valid, but how do we know what kind of lyrics of fury that KASE2 had up his (one) sleeve?

Several years later, during my second visit to New York, I was heading into S.O.B.’s to see The Doppelgangaz with Rich and this magnificent piece of footage was the result.
Kay Slay spanned eras in a way that few can claim, from rising through the ranks of the NY graff world (to the point where was worthy of inclusion in the pivotal Style Wars documentary in 1983) to becoming a mainstay of the 00’s mixtape scene, while also hosting ‘The Drama Hour’ on Hot 97, putting together increasingly ambitious posse cuts (‘Rolling 110 Deep‘ runs for 40 effin’ minutes!!!) and running Straight Stuntin’ magazine to celebrate all the gals built like a brick shithouse. Who can compare to that kind of legacy? An absolute mad lad and top bloke.

Also gave us the classic Return of Black Rob mixtape.
I will never forget how he punked Clue on the radio
