Much like the dreaded Rap Ballad, Hip-House Track or the R&B Crossover Attempt, the DJ Scratch Track has long been relegated to the foggy past of old rap albums. While the Rap DJ eventually got to the point where they could release entire albums of them scratching at a billion miles an hour, following on their emancipation via the Return of the DJ compilations, I prefer the halcyon days of that one song where a group would let the dude on the decks go for broke.
The following collection ranges from straight-forward cutting and scratching showcases to weird cut and paste sample collages. The conditions for this compilation are basically any token scratching tracks featured on a rap album – but the song itself can’t include rapping about how awesome the DJ is.

If only there was a DJ Teddy Ted scratch-track on Nice & Smooth’s first album instead of “Something I Can’t Explain”!
The first thing I thought of when I saw the title was the two Ultra tracks
Where’s DJ Premier Is In Deep Concentration?
Dr Octagon “Bear witness.”
Dope. Definitely enough scope for a volume 2 of this. Here’s my favourite from J-Zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DdaddzXT-Q
Definitely.I wanted to cap it at 20. Part 2 will include ‘Bear Witness’, ‘DJ K La Boss’ and ‘DJ Premier In Deep Concentration’.
I know those 2 dj’s ain’t as popular as xtra p but you shouldn’t ignore main source’s “scratch n kut”…
…and it’s a shame aladdin didn’t get a scrach track on “we’re in this together” since his scratching skills were extraordinarily good.
PE – Rebel Without a Pause
Peanut Butter Wolf ft. Persevere – Mobbin’
I could name, many, many more… Always dug a solid, scratch intro to albums, as a bit of a teaser of things to come…
As much as we all mock Eric B djing skills (or lack thereof), “Eric B. Made My Day” is dope.
GM Flash & the Furious Five – “Adventures of GMF on the Wheels of Steel” [might be on a Euro release of their 1st ablum]
Herbie Hancock f. Grandmixer D.ST – “Rockit” [and I know Future Shock isn’t a rap album]
Eric B. & Rakim – “Eric B. is on the Cut”
Eric B. & Rakim – “Chinese Arithmetic”
Big Daddy Kane – “The House that Cee Built”
Peanut Butter Wolf – My Vynils Weight a Ton is a must in dis craft!
Brilliant work Robbie.
Robbie not having terminator x on the playlist screams blasphemy
@$yk: The guy didn’t even do any of his own scratching so I don’t think I’ll lose any sleep over it.
Whaaat? I saw fam live (rip) didn’t chick say he ain’t like the “rebel” scratches which are legendary? Man holla back to discuss…..

@$yk: DJ Johnny Juice did a lot of the cuts on the early stuff, although I think Terminator did the ‘Rebel’ cuts with the Chubb Rock record.
