Countless demo tapes and outtakes have appeared on Youtube and boutique vinyl releases over the last twenty years, yet these five tunes still elude me:
1. Showbiz and Diamond D – ‘Where’s AG?’
2. Da Lench Mob – ‘Pin The Tail On The Honky’
3. KRS-One – ‘Return of the Boom Bap’ [OG version with the Oscar Mayer Wiener jingle]
4. Stetsasonic – ‘You Thought It Was Your Thing?’ [EPMD diss]
5. MC Serch – ‘Back To The Grill Again’ [Demo with Percee P, Akinyele, Nas and five other unsigned dudes]
Others have briefly appeared, but then were cruelly snatched away before I had the chance to rip them…like the demo version of ‘Bait’.
What’s your Rap Moby Dick? Pause, nullus, ayooooo etc.
Black Rob’s remake of Spoonie Gee’s Take If Off.
Percee P’s “Bang In The Clubs,” because it was dope but especially because I had a tape of it and lost it, which makes it extra frustrating.
@TM: Essential.
@Wern Rock: I think I have that on tape as well, I’ll have a look for it.
Back to the Grill with Percee P? My head just spun.
Are you talking about the Bait demo that doesn’t have Impeach drums on it? The one Red played in 86?

@Willizm: Incredible. You just won 2020!
No problem
I wish Marley would release that Just Rhymin’ Wit Biz with Frik N Frak on it.
There’s a demo DMX made dissing Rakim that came out circa 92 or 93. I think it was over the Seven Minutes of Funk beat.
Way back in like 92 or 93, Cypress Hill was on the radio talking to Flex I think, and Muggs said something about a song they did with Brand Nubian and Black Sheep called “Pass the Blunt”. I was souped, but then it never came out.
All uncredited 91-92 Shadow productions for Paris, including the magnificent’Check It Out, Chall’ Remix with end beat from ‘Entropy’…
rugged intellect unreleased tracks
A Brand Nubian and Cypress Hill called “Spark Another L” was covered in Rappages (I think by Bobbito in his column) but I’ve never been able to find it, and no brag but I find everything!
