The wu-tang clan logo is this generation’s rolling stones lips logo, or the dead head logo, I can’t decide which. It’ll be in walmart and target in a couple of years if it isn’t already.
Eminem was the first one that came to mind when I saw this. As far as Wu Tang goes though I tend to notice most people only know a small handful of songs by them that don’t like rap cause I’ve been pretty shocked at the number of casual Wu Tang fans that never heard Supreme Clientele, Cuban Linx, Ironman, etc.
The first name that sprung to mind was “The Roots” – “Y’know they’re proper musicians who play actual instruments and they’re conscious with it too….””
The rest of the usual suspects tend to fall into one of three categories:
1) “They’re good because they don’t rap about guns, drugs and bitches” virtue-signallers’ faves (e.g. the early success of the distinctly below average Black eyed peas)
2) Festival/student club night favourites: (the Judgment Night soundtrack, Public Enemy’s earlier albums, Cypress Hill’s Black Sunday, ODB, Busta Rhymes, etc)
2) The “They must be good, they’re successful and the media are always talking about them which means they must be doubly good” acts: (Eminem, Snoop, Kanye, Jay-Z or whoever).
There’s also the novelty factor of certain topical songs.
Don’t know if you have Primark in the States, they’re a budget clothes store over here in the UK, you can get Wu Tang T Shirts there, I got a nice red & black one last summer lol
I would replace Biz with Snoop and MF Doom with Run the Jewels.
