One thing that really used to scrape my avocado as a rap fan was when many of the jerk-faced record labels tried to play possum by introducing certain ‘incentives’ to buy more CD’s and tapes – namely throwing on bonus tracks which weren’t available anywhere else. In some cases, like with G-Rap’s Live and Let Die, all of the bonus songs were available on 12″ b-sides, and some tracks would eventually turn-up on double vinyl reissues of these albums ten or fifteen years later…but most of these had to be rescued from obscurity by bootleggers, and the rest? No one cared enough to even boot ’em. Please note that I’ve restricted this to one track per artist, otherwise there would be four STET and Digital Underground jams on here.

23 ‘Marvel’ – Ghostface Killah feat. The RZA

Big props on this one Robbie
i’m confused with vibes and stuff. i’m pretty sure it was on the tape and cd when it first came out.
@upgrayedd: It’s included because it wasn’t on the first vinyl version, which is the theme of this comp.
I was kinda pissed that Wild Pitch didn’t press Main Source’s “Just a Friendly Game of Baseball RMX” on wax until many years after its initial release…and Diamond’s “Red Light, Green Light” was a CD exclusive too, right?
@Kool Max Power: Yeah, so was ‘Feel The Vibe’. I could’ve sworn that the ‘Baseball’ remix was on a 12″ but I can’t find it anywhere.
Main Source baseball remix was on the Boyz in the hood soundtrack. Thanks for this dl Robbie!
Ill Rahlos feat. Organized Konfusion “United As One” is another nice track that was a bonus cut on the Equinox CD. I heard they had plans to release an Ill Rahlos EP soon after the 3rd OK album…
Also on the original “Cuban Linx” CD, there was a non-vinyl track entitled “North Star”…
Didn’t the Diezzle Don & Govna Mattic CD include an exclusive hidden track, too?
@Steve: That’s what I was thinking of, cheers!
@Kool Max Power: Don’t rate ‘Northstar’ but I forgot the Don and the Guv track.
Sounds of the Underground is one of the best jams on Sex Packets. So dope. Raw Fusion albums were ok, but you’re right in that this built up an expectation that would never be met. Great post
Dah Shinin by Smif n Wessun didn’t include Lets Git it On on the vinyl
@Ben: They also left ‘Wontime’ off but both were on 12″ at least.
Slave was on every copy of Black Moon I ever copped on CD and Tape….did it not make the LP? Maybe onlybthe American versions?
I gotta give ya dap though. This mix was poooing overdue! Ganagstarr must have almost a whole album of bonus cuts – especially Japanese versions ;)
* long overdue
I so hate auto correct sometimes…
@Korry: ‘Slave’ and ‘Act Like U Want It’ were left off the vinyl.
Wasn’t Organized Konfusion’s “Passion” only on that greatest hits album which was only released on CD?
“Hands In The Air Mouth Shut” might just be my favorite of all these. Wish they could’ve thrown it on the CD edition. Also, Sony fucked up by including “Silent Murder” as a tape-only track. One of the strongest songs on It Was Written.
@Korry – I know the Japan edition of Hard To Earn had “Doe In Advance,” but it was an inferior mix without the Ohio Players sample if I remember.
@Paul H: It was, which qualifies it as a CD exclusive.
“I went for mine” was left off the vinyl? why would that happen? not enough of a party jam?
“Japan Only” is one of the reasons i want to visit Japan one day to rack up.
You guys, maybe someone on here can back me up, cuz I can’t find anything on the internet about it, but I had a copy of too short ‘gettin it’ on CD,I think it might have been censored? But it was a totally different track listing, with a few songs I never seen elsewhere.
Ahem… I just checked discogs and I found it… maybe someone has? I’ll suck yo dick for an upload! It’s the version with “funk session” feat shock g for song number 9
@u prolly know this but Roc couldn’t get the sample cleared for Hide my tears Luv that song
can you re up this please @Robbie?
@Seangee: You’re good to go with a new link.
Hell yeah! Been looking for Sound of the Underground for ages. Cassette only had Hip-Hop Doll, A Tribute to the Early Days, and Gutfest full as well. Thank you. Any chance for FLAC versions to be available? With the 35th anniversary being released, I cannot understand why these tracks wouldn’t have been included. Big thanks for this post, a gem amongst uninteresting internet rocks!
