Granted, a few of these songs aren’t exactly Atlantis-level deepest of the deep cuts, but the whole idea was to make a compilation of Corona’s finest that avoids the usual ‘Watch Out Now,’ ‘Off The Books’ and ‘Props Over Here’ Bermuda Triangle.
Download: A Salute To Beatnuts Deep Cuts
Track listing:
01 ’40 Oz.’
Scrapped because Tribe used the loop first, but I prefer this version just because of that bizarre dinosaur reference.
02 ‘Fried Chicken’
Better than the remix.
03 ‘Bless The M.I.C.’
Gab Gotcha nearly steals the show over this spectacular, blunted loop.
04 ‘Robbed and Stole’
Anti-social rap at it’s finest.
05 ‘Muchachacha’
The epitome of that ‘Nuts swing.
06 ‘Get Funky’ [Remix]
An all-time favourite remix which totally changes the feel of the track.
07 ‘Bring the Funk Back’
That JB shit that has nothing to do with Mike G or Baby Bam.
08 ‘World’s Famous’
V.I.C.’s may have taken hours to nail his verse but this song still goes.
09 ‘Peace Akki’
Featured on Fashion’s solo but still has that group chemistry.
10 ‘No Equal’ [Remix]
Better than the original thanks to it’s darker mood.
11 ‘Here’s A Drink’
Pure rap perfection.
12 ‘It’s Da Nuts’
Rapping over old 45’s again with Kool Ass Fash was a good idea.
13 ‘Are You Ready?’
Shoulda been the lead single.
14 ‘Coca Tasa’
Tony Touch never fails to entertain.
15 ‘Dawn Of The Dead’
Vintage Street Level flow.
16 ‘Routine’
Gotta luh that loop.
17 ‘Yo Yo Yo’
That hook is so amazing that scientists will be analysing it for the next century.
18 ‘Uh Huh’
Superior strip club dedication that most likely has never been played in a gentleman’s club.
19 ‘However Whenever’
Beatnuts ‘throwaway’ songs are better than your whole album.
20 ‘Sandwiches’ [Original Version]
The second set of verses that were cut off the album version are even more offensive than the first two, and should be applauded for their contributions to the culture.
No ‘Superbad’? Punk, you’s a straight up marica.
Nice one Robbie, The Beatnuts are probably the rap group I listen to the most now thanks to this site, I was aware of them at the time they came out but never properly listened to them, not sure why.
Anyway making up for it now.
Junkyard Ju Ju, one of my favourite ever emcees, is the personification of the B Boy attitude to me.
My kinda Hip Hop.
Bless The Mic is a personal favourite.
I don’t remember where I first heard “dawn of the dead” but that shit is ice cold
@doughjoe: Close the door…
@Slappy White: I’m going straight to hell, aren’t I? Damn you Street Level for not having a single shitty song!
Dope…I loved Stone Crazy, never hear it get much love though,I dont think I heard an album after that though just the singles
@Robbie: Word ’em up. Better than Illmatic, you were absolutely right. I don’t want to hear shit from all you NaS Stans.
Did Gab Gotcha ever make anything else?
Painfully missing Superbad, Slam pit and Hell raiser. But still good to recognize the Nuts for their slept on production and song concepts….
… and pour out a little liquor for ‘We Came Here’.
‘We Came Here’ and ‘Fluid’ were cut since I had too much stuff from the same period.
Amazing compilation- pretty much nailed it. I always had a soft spot for ‘confused rappers’ from Milk me. Weakish album, but a great cut.
Props over here ruined a perfect album.
Super Bad. for me the quiet vinyl pressing ruined a brilliant album you cant play out on a sound system.
Most Relativity vinyl sounded like shit which is unfortunate as their roster was one of the best in the mid 90s
Anyone know the story as to why “Fluid” got pulled as the lead single for Street Level last minute (there’s a promo CD single floating out there)? Sample clearance? Sherm references? Always loved that track to death (same with “We Came Here”).
@opsta now: The double vinyl reissue that Get On Down released is essential in terms of righting that particular wrong.
no Let Off A Couple. ??
I dont know why these dudes did not use more cameos on their records. They could have brought some good new and used talent to the table.
Man , n/e Queens, nas , ,cnn,koolgrap, dr butcher,joe fatal, large prolmobb deep atcq,……
All we got was pun, sadat x, nice n smooth?
When will there be a comeback?
I like Fashion’s In My Room better than Chi Ali’s version.
You get props over here for this.
@KAPIKAP..
KRS ONE/SLICK RICK/JUST ICE/CAMPO LO/FAT JOE..
NOT TO MENTION MELLE MEL AND GRAND MASTER CAZ..
Ben, Check Gab Gotcha’s ‘Angels’ single. Good stuff.
Superbad (as above), Hellraiser Remix and Se Acabo Translated Remix feat Method Man deserve a mention too
@Nate good looks that track is piff you have an mp3 by any chance?
find that shit?? .. maybe not as obscure.. yet still essential
Love this. 🙌🏼
‘All over the track’ one of my favorite Les verses
And ‘rik’s joint’…damn. Perfection
