Download: A Salute To Charlemagne Productions

Posted on December 5, 2016August 4, 2023 by Robbie Ettelson

Henri Charlemagne has the misfortune of having the same name as a current radio shock-jock/general blowhard, but don’t hold that against him. Best known for his work with his crew Natural Elements (and the Fortess Entertainment label which also spawned Raidermen and Nightbreed aka Ka’s first crew), he later went on to work with Puffy, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Dipset and even Jermaine Dupri for some reason. Charlemagne has a very unorthadox sound, which allows him to bend the rules in his favour whether he’s making underground rap or R&B beats.

    Word, Charlemagne has always been a favorite of mine. His work with NE was incredible. 2 Tons is such a beast.

    @p: I don’t like to have too many tracks from the same artist on these comps if I can avoid it.

    I hear you Robbie, but I would’ve included Bust Mine over Mayday.

    @Robbie
    Figures, I thought that might be the case.
    But to this day it still kinda annoys me Big Noyd not rapping over the ‘it’s on you’ beat! such a waste of a really good Charlemagne track.

    @Slappy

    Mayday is dope, but i agree with your point. I like both.

    Great compilation. One question- isn’t that young buck NYC basically him free styling over Pete Rock’s Heart and Soul of NYC beat for red cafe, or did Pete jack Charlemagne? Thanks!
