Notorious rag the New York Post were having a slow news day this weekend so they’ve directed their attention to ‘exposing’ Ka for leading a ‘double life’ as fire chief during the day and an ‘anti-cop’ rapper by night. I thought it was fairly well known that Ka worked for the NY Fire Dept within the rap world, while the fact that he doesn’t go around handing out CD’s at work is pretty logical because it’s no cot damn business of your co-worked how you spend your off time anyway. The article itself is your typical tabloid garbage, citing lyrics out of context and even quoting tweets that Ka ‘liked’ as evidence to his ‘bad attitude.’ Clearly this high-grade investigative journalism only involves a five minute search of Rap Genius and Twitter rather than actually taking the time to listen to any of Ka’s music, which is a far cry from the modern-day N.W.A. style that the piece implies.
The most disturbing aspect of this beat-up is the implication that by listing his annual salary and the value of the home that he shares with his wife, he’s somehow less credible as a rapper and has been hiding the fact from his fans. It seems that the Post prefer their rappers to be poor, struggling hustlers who hawk CD-R’s in Times Square to tourists as per the stereotype. Surely the fact that Ka is disciplined and committed enough to create music in his spare time – without the usual commercial constraints and pressures to make a hit record – should be celebrated?
What’s also unclear is the motivation and timing of this ‘expose.’ Did one of Ka’s co-worker’s call the Post in an attempt to get him ousted from his current role in the hops that they might step into his shoes? Or does this paper have an entire division dedicated to finding out the day jobs of hip-hop artists in the hopes of kicking off this storm in a teacup? Since there is no evidence that Ka’s music career has actually impacted his ability to fulfill his duties at work, nor has he ever promoted actual violence against the NYPD in his lyrics, this all comes off as an ill-informed attempt at character assassination.
Thanks to bboycult for the heads-up.

Good Lookin Out Robbie!
Ka has just received $500,000 worth of publicity. The NY Post should be ashamed of themselves 😜
Yep he Def needs to quit his day job and become homeless. He should be ashamed for making an honest living.
Strangely this article just makes me want to check the album out even more. Free publicity indeed!
I bet dollars to donuts that somebody Ka worked with put him on blast. He’s done nothing mainstream enough musically to garner that type of attention. With that said “Honor Killed The Samurai” is an excellent body of work. Fuck the NY Post as a newspaper, staff and a mothafuckin’ crew.
Stretching the definition of exclusive there. His fire career was never hidden. Must be a crazy slow news day in NY
I wouldn’t even wipe my @$$ with the NY Post. Keep doin’ your thing, Ka, phuggum!!!…
Same ole fluke ass NY Post. Give the brother some light for standing for something…SMH. Salute Ka keep getting yours!!!
Be a fan all you want, but listen to that song “Just” posted up on the main page. Now realize you are listening to a FDNY captain. Makes it just a *lil* lame now to be honest.
I have listened to the song “Just” about 50 times all the time knowing he was a firefighter and To be honest it is not lame at all
Nice post Robbie! Most underground rappers have always had some sort of job while pursuing their career. I didn’t think that was a secret. I remember interviewing Encore long time ago & he worked at Comcast lol! With the state the economy is in who can afford to just have one job?
Yeah if he was to be outed as a cop or correc. Off. Rick rozzay!!! Then it would be pretty damn lame. But Ka is the coolest fire fighting dude ever! Honor killed… Is another masterpiece from mr Metal clergy
STRAIGHT UP BULLSHIT..I LIVE IN NYC AND DIDN’T EVEN KNOW OF THIS..GOES TO SHOW HOW MUCH ‘REAL HIP HOP HEADS’ PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE GARBAGE TABLOID RAGS..
(NO SHOT AT YOU ROB..GOOD LOOKIN’)..
Sun being a fire captain makes it better..you can’t get no realer than that, the cat feeding you mentally and prepared to save the physical..uber respect for sun keep that grown man music movement going & the ny post soothsayer fork tongue can hold that L

I make cheese n rap what is a wrong with making cheese n rapping,MC Cheezy-wardstew cheese out soon!
@$yk …..Tell’em what fucking time it is Sun!!
such nonsense.. this is low, even for the post. I exhausted my thoughts on this the day it dropped. Good on him for having a great job and solid partner. I really hope this did more good than bad for the man. He is one of the most substantially sound artists we have in our beloved genre.
The fact tat this shit made front page speaks volumes of how much of a trash rag the Post has become. Shit is shameful.
Public Enemy called it years ago… ny post. ..trash
The timing of the article seems pretty clear. It’s election time. Nothing to get the mindless drone going like anti-cop fear. Now a “good honest politician” can swoop in and save the people with honest values. Seems like it may not be working this time. Ka just isn’t as incendiary as Body Count was…
Man ya’ll being too nice the New York Post can straight suck a dick…my man Ka is that Dude.
