This was originally meant to be a best and worst kinda thing but there was no way I was going to listen to Aasop Rock and 2 Chains mp3’s just for some stupid column. I also just realised that I should have included Timeless Truth’s Cold Wave, which I thought was released last year when I wrote this yesterday.
No Country for Old (Rap) Men: The rap albums I didn’t hate from 2016 so far

I only had to 50 cent my way onto the 8th and final album on the list, i need to get shot 9 times for the full press effect
2016 is hsaping up as a fairly meh vintage for rap albums. Don’t get me wrong, J-Zone, Count Bass D, MegaRan, Elzhi, Badly Promoted Geniuses,Ill Bill and Aesop Rock have all dropped good to very good albums. However, there’s been nothing truly paradigm-shifting/mould-breaking. Almost nothing has wowed me and we’re 2/3 way through the year. I say “almost” because I love The Qeld’s “Kush Zombies” (https://qeld.bandcamp.com/album/kush-zombies). That said, much of this album was previously available on youtube and soundcloud for years so it’s not so much a new album as a greatest hits.
I wanted to order the Agallah but read somewhere (maybe on here ?) that it was just a cd-r, not a proper cd, is that right ? Such a shame if that’s the case.
Conway ‘Reject 2’ is my most played, preffered it to Flygod
big twinz “TNT” was pretty disappointing
The Agallah is a CD-R. I made the comment here: http://www.unkut.com/2016/03/stream-agallah-bo-the-legend-of-the-water-dragon-lp/
we need more interviews
Dres feat. Sadat X – We Strive produced by Easy Mo Bee shit on your whole list. Sadly the rest of the new DAT LP is wack.
Is “Agua” even out yet ?
Average fare this year for sure. The Planet Asia / DJ Concept album was a banger and Royce the 5’9″ has had a great year. The Which is cool video is some of the rawest shit I have ever seen. I would add him and Apathy to this list for sure.
Yo Robbie, how do you feel about Homeboy Sandman? I thought this track was the best of his album this year

How about the Schoolboy Q album?
Meyhem Lauren was the shining star but after seeing him on Vice I find it hard to take him seriously.
I think it’s time we faced the fact that Hiphop is dead. This is not hyperbole. It has morphed into something else.
Think of someone that got into rock music back in the 60s, how does rock made in 2016 relate to that? Hiphop is officially oldies now. Accept it and let’s move on.
Any thoughts on the A-F-R-O Polo EP?
@jesse, pretty sure rob doesnt fux with anyone on stones throw.
Nolan the Ninja, Truth, and Clear Soul Forces were compelling
Who’s Bangin’ This? Reminds me of some old 90’s Backpack B-side rap.
Jake Kost-The Kost Of Reked Supras (Feat. Supastition And Reks)
