The introductions to rap albums have traditionally been the arena of poorly-executed impersonations of Al Pacino movies or just general shit talking. These eighteen examples, however, feature intros where actual rapping has been utilized to make them worthwhile. Good job, everybody!
Download: A Salute To Rapping Intros [re-upped]
my favorite is Micranots – Intro (Obelisk Movements), beats and rhymes fire.
not necessarily albums but many of Tony Touch’s mixtapes intros were dope rapping… how u feel bout that?
My 3 Favs of all time:
Large pro – Intro (1st class)
EPMD – Intro ( Out of business)***Dj Scratch !!!***
AZ – New life ( pieces of man)
Krs one attacks-return of the boom bap
Dope ass comp – Tim Dogs intro for Penicillin on Wax missing aside. I will be playing this a lot.
One of my all time fave album intros is “This world is full of lovely, elegant heart-warming stories but this album is not.” (Gon, “Consider violence”).
@PAS: Can’t believe I forget the Dog!
Gotta say “you don’t look like I imagined you too Robbie”. ;-)
Even though it is not technically the intro, Common’s Invocation is a quick one verse joint that sets the tone for One Day It’ll All Make Sense quite nicely…
IMO, the first cuts from Organized’s Stress album and Ocee’s first album are some of the best intros in rap history.
Ummm
1. Outkast-Myintrotoletuknow
2. NWA-Prelude
both crazy dope and hard as hell
I like the intro to Mad Skillz’ first album:
“See it’s not about the salary
I do this so MC’s think twice before they battle me”
“My rhyme style’s scandalous, leavin’ MCs in bandages
So many niggas on my dick now I feed ’em semen fuckin’ sandwiches
Encores when I throw rappers to the floor
Battling me is like giving birth to a fuckin’ dinosaur…”
If the intro to Capital Punishment isn’t on here, it’s garbage. Punisher take out all y’all Stuper-heroes…..yes,,,stuper heroes…bam bam…bam… from Fresh
It’s dark and hell is hot intro is one of the best I ever heard with Arsonists debut album As the world burns
