I think it’s a combination of things that fall into a grey area. There was a time when everybody had at least one attempt at radio airplay, but we understood the game they had to play to give us 10 great songs, so they were forgiven.
Someone just told me they call it ‘Trap’, so that and all the shitty pop which has fcked Hip Hop music for the last 15 years.
Look no further than the likes of Morris Minor and the Majors, and MC Miker G & DJ Sven.
“Real Hip Hop” is that puritanical four elements Taliban rapping-about-rapping tryhard guff. “Fake rap” is NWA, Wu Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Juice Crew and other such manufactured outfits who indulge in ghostwriting/sockpuppetry. I know which I prefer (the latter obviously). Hip Hop/Rap music is pop culture/music. It’s not a religion and never set out with a fix set of tenets. The first decade of recorded rap was pretty much all “fake.” The moral of the story? Dig what you dig…understand why you dig it…then explain to others your understanding of that which you dig. Dig?
Oh my God,Drake is NOT a rapper,and if you want to know what fake Hip Hop is just listen to the Lost Boyz “Keep It Real”,Mr Cheeks gave a good definition….
Only in hip hop can a marketing ploy that should have had a shelf life of 2-3 years still be used 25 years later.
“Yo you with that real hip hop
….. Better but this album son”.
* buy not but.
Fake hiphop are those dudes who hang out in front of the record stores and try to force their horrible demo on you.
Good article… anybody search for “fake” hip-hop ya might as well stop looking cuz it doesn’t exist. Just because you don’t like certain rappers doesn’t mean they’re fake
*searching
Fake hip hop are toys who sit around bitching about the legitimacy of rap music on the Internet
