Every music nut has a tale of the time they found some crazy shit at a record shop, for some reason didn’t cop it, and the memory remains the ether that burns their soul slow to this very day. For me, it was seeing what I recall to be a copy of Big Daddy Kane‘s ‘Wrath of Kane [Live]’ on a Cold Chillin’ twelve inch but not having the money to get it. Apparently the record doesn’t actually exist on vinyl outside of this bootlegs which I eventually grabbed. Has my memory failed me? Did I just imagine a record that never existed, or get mixed-up with the ‘I’ll Take You There’/’Wrath of Kane’ single?
Regardless, what has been the record, CD or whatever that you held in your hands for a moment but failed to bring home with you?
Dr. Dre & Snoop – “Deep Cover” cassette single, saw it in the store when it came out but for some reason didn’t buy it. Came back the next week to get it and low and behold they took it off the shelves because of complaints of violence against police :(

Should have copped more than one copy of meccalicious’ “the youth” promo in 96. Only saw it on vinyl that once @ rock&soul.
The Clue? tape with “John Blaze” with the original beat and original Nas verse. By the time Don Cartagena dropped, it was different. Fortunately, nothing ever dies online.
Had a dream back in 90s where I went into a record shop and found all these amazing records that didn’t really exist… b sides with mad guests , remixes with new Verses… I remember waking up being so amped about these records and then raising it was not real. ..
I am a crazy fan of Shobiz & AG, and back in 95,I used to come every week to the record shop,and I saw the LP “The Goodfellas” ,I didn’t have enough cash.hen finally I could aford the LP,it was sold out,and Amazon didn’t exist yet
Too many to mention. The Slim Shady EP at Fat Beats in NY back in ’97. Fuckin thing sells for $700 now. Saw some Godfather Don white labels on the shelf also. I was on a massive budget back then, so I probably had like $25 to my name.
I saw a Raekwon bootleg in Tower Records, I assume it was a bootleg because I never saw it anywhere again, ever, even on Ebay.
There was a soundtrack CD with a limited release which I looked at, years later I saw it auctioned for like 800 dollars.
My biggest regret is not selling the Cuban Linx when someone offered me stupid money for it, should’ve just sold the shit.

I remember going to a used record store in Boston around 91/92. They had a big fat stack of Marley Marl In Control Volume 1. there must have been 50 of them all selling for $0.99. Like an idiot I bought 1. In retrospect I should have bought all of them.

Mr Voodoo ‘Come off Hard’ 12″ for 35 in sound library maybe around like 1999. thought i would find it cheaper, these days it averages around 150.
This one’s not really a “Hip-Hop” joint but on the other hand, you could consider it that. This record spot had a reissue of the Skull Snaps album for like $12 or $13. I was on a budget, diggin’ through the dollar bin. I thought when I got paid the next week, I’d go back for that. Of course, it wasn’t there and I’ve seen it again only oneother time for a ridiculous piece of change. Almost makes me sick just to think about it…

Being a record collector in Australia in the 80s was hard work to get the gems…. Passed this one up cause of the price , went back next day and gone….. TIP = Buy it straight away !!
