Adding gunshots, sirens and rewinds to remove swears from rap records is all well and good, but you’ve got to respect the effort made by certain rappers who went to the trouble of re-writing and re-recording their lyrics in order to cater to radio guidelines. Some of my personal favorites include Tim Dog‘s ‘Forget Compton,’ (not re-recorded but hilariously re-edited) Willie Dee‘s ‘Bald Head Gals’ and King Tee‘s ‘Played Like A Piano’ (which sports a remixed beat and numerous mentions of the fact that it’s a clean radio version), while who can forget Showbiz switching up “Hoes give me head on the escalator” for “Girls smile at me on an escalator”? Hold ya head everyone who was gifted the first Wu-Tang tape clean version with three songs removed.

I hate that CNN’s “L.A., L.A.” is edited even on the explicit version…
The “Brooklyn Zoo” radio edit is also essential.
Oh, Respect, Robbie! I’ve always had a preference for certain clean versions of song, such as Mind Playing Tricks on me, Deep Cover and Punks Jump up… I don’t mind curses at all, but I guess when you get used to one set of lyrics and suddenly hear the dirty version, sometimes the curses just sound excessive. That said, the Pharoah Monch “Simon says gegegegegegeget up” version that was straight garbage that made a strong ass chorus sound straight up sily. keep up the good work!
@melquan
cosign Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me’s radio version beimg better…
@MAAD
Even worse was the clean version Parole Violators that made the album. Guess they didn’t want the backlash from the “rapin’ her” line…
as a young buck I purchased 36 chambers from walmart. not knowing literally every song was clean. that was disappointing.
Yeah, the Punks Jump Up radio cut is fantastic. I had no idea there was a clean version of Amerikkka’s most though!
AKON – I Wanna love(Fuck)
You. Akon is really hip hop more than anything else
Big scoob- such as can’t hang.
Suckas can’t hang. Damn auto correct!
Always got a kick out of all the ISH on the radio version in Warriors Drum
As Erkel said Brooklyn Zoo is a highpoint. The loss of entire lines and gun cocking sounds is genius
Who Am I(Kokane) – Nickel Slick is way better then Nickel Slick Nigga for example, but the cream of the crop has to be the radio version of One In The Chamba by The Almighty R.S.O
The clean version of N*gga Ya Love to Hate by Ice Cube is a re-recording, but he still drops the N-bomb on the hook!
For some reason I always enjoyed the clean version of Too Short – Just Another Day
Shout out to Maad – that CNN’s La,La was edited on the album version always annoyed me!!
Can you please repost this and the tribute to noise?! :)
