Robbie, Dre’s not to blame, it’s Kanye. When Kanye won his little sales battle with 50 in ’07, labels took notice and that shifted the focus away from (I’ve grown to hate this term but I’ll use it anyway) gangsta rap and opened the lane for all this other ish you see today.’Ye himself put the proverbial nail in the coffin with that damn “8o8’s And Heartbreak”, unknowingly giving Drake and 40 a whole blueprint to get stuck in their molars. Everyone else follows suit, drum kits get kicked to the curb and replaced with wind chimes and there you go…
That new Eminem record is shitty as hell, i dont care how “loud” it is..When done right (99 Problems)i fux with it *pause*..
I would have to agree Kanye is the main culprit for all this emo, sappy bullshit that’s been going on the past couple of years and all this rapping about doing molly isn’t helping either with these rappers being all emotional.
I must be the only guy on this website that don’t like the “99 Problems” beat. Just because a beat is “loud” doesn’t make it a good beat.
I think blaming kanye is fair but he didn’t invent that sound he just bandwagon jumps but spends more money on it does it more artsy and takes credit for other ppls shit.
Kanye is not to blame – Gerardo with “Rico Suave” is! Nothin was the same after this one.
I think you all miss the point that sampling, scratching and loud drums are missing in rap today. Now we have drumless ‘beats’ with rappers-slash-singers that do a shitty job of both.
How can you say rap fans have become soft and not be a part of the problem? The Internet, blogs like these and all blogs in general, gossip,tv,social media, radio, fashion, all these are contributing factors to “fans” becoming soft. People used to be real supporters or a part of the movement(hip hop used to be a movement)now they’re just hopping on to whatever’s trending for five seconds.
@Mypaintisfree: Soft rap is the disease, Unkut Dot Com is the cure.
