Doo Wop’s ’95 Live Intro

Posted on May 28, 2005December 23, 2019 by Robbie Ettelson

Doo Wop, Uneek and some other guy

To celebrate the new improved look of this site, here’s one of the finest moments ever to grace a mixtape – the intro to Doo Wop‘s ’95 Live. By extending the usual “couple of guests at the start of the tape” routine, Da Bounce Master assembled an all-star cast of New York’s finest to rock verses over looped instrumentals – for 19 minutes! This in turn paved the way for Tony Touch‘s three-part 50 MC’s tapes.

You can’t lose with a line-up that includes everyone that was making a little noise at the time – from M.O.P. to Raekwon, Q-Tip to one-hit wonders Ill Al Skratch. GURU comes through with a quote which is even more relevent today than it was ten years ago: “Back in the day you’d get stepped to for biting/nowadays, the suckers they be finding it exciting/to cold copy the next man’s shit, that’s the bullshit that gets me vexed and shit”. Hold ya head Jay-Z.

It’s also worth noting that both Tony Touch and Doo Wop burn a lot of full-time rappers when it comes to lyrical tactics, as they continue to demonstrate that less-is-more. Kid Capri and Diamond D are two other DJ’s/producers who have had more than their fair share of notable moments in the booth. Most of this session was white labelled on that Doo Wop Freestyle double vinyl as well.

Doo Wop on the mic >>>>> 80 % of rappers on the mic.

“95 Live” is probably the best mixtape ever.

That was my favorite Mixtape. It has the hard to find M.O.P. “To The Death” remixed over the instrumental of Zapps “Computer Love”. The Freestyles were fire aswell. Could you send me a mp3 of the tape

BRING IT BACK TO THE ESSCENCE , WHERE MIXTAPES WAS WORTH LISTENING TOO AS OPPOSE TO THE GARBAGE NOW. SPEAKING FOR EVERYONE THATS BEEN LISTENING TO MIXTAPES ,EXCLUSIVES AINT THAT HOT NOMORE .I WOULD LOOK AT MIX CD’S OUT NOW . I WOULD SAY MAYBE ONE OR TWO SONGS ARE OK AND THE REST IS GARBAGE FULL OF NONSENSE. FUCK THAT!

Yeah, I do miss the days when the mixtape was actually a MIX…TAPE.

But to the credit of DJ’s like Clue who kinda changed things, I feel that the reason why he won so much back then was because he realized something a lot of DJ’s prob. weren’t willing to accept. He realized that when it boils down, the mixtapes aren’t about the DJ’s as much as they’re about the songs. I know when I was younger, I never bought a mixtape on the strength of who the DJ was. If Ron G or Doo Wop had a bad tape and a lesser-known dude had more good stuff on his, I was gonna go with his. So I guess Clue figured that the name recognition as well as the exclusives was a great combination. And then you add the fact that Clue sucked on the 12s (except for blends), and I’ll say he made the best of his situation.

That being said, the ’95 Live intro and tape was indeed a great thing in hip-hop at that time. Although I never understood what the craze over the E Bros. “Funky Piano” was that winter. They made damn near everybody’s mixtape with that half-ass song.

That 95 live(DooWop)jump off is a classic,I still play my tape and cd every chance I get. It’s one of my few classic’s that define”classic”,the Q-tip diss to the westcoast freestyle on there is worth it alone.-Roger Jones
