That chip on S. Carter’s shoulder just keeps growing…

Yes, he promoted the album. But do you like it though?

It’s a good album tho, marketing schtick aside.

I do miss a more indepth review of the album as do Mike. But unlike Dj Blendz I do not like the album. At first listen I was impressed, the second time round I got a bit borred and the third, fourth and fifth I couldnt care less. Id rather listen to the new Sadat X one producer one artist album or Molecules and Showbiz ditto. The samples on 4:44 is just to obvious. The production to clean and Jays sincerity a big bluff.

You listened to it again and again and again without enjoying it? Why?

He said on the first listen he was impressed. If you read the whole sentence before quoting part of it you’ll find things make more sense.

Granted, but if he couldn’t have cared less on the third listen, why would he spin it again? And then again? He obviously likes the album, but now wants to convince himself that he doesn’t. Why?

Yo Jay Z is CORNY! That album is garbage! Stop DICK RIDING POP RAPPERS!

@Step one Exactly! @Slappy When u find u self in an odd situation that u actually like a New Jay Z song then it is worth a second spin. 4-5 times is probably a lot of times in this day and age where u find ur new quick fix every 2nd second! Others (old farts like me) tend to take there time to listen/watch etc before passing judgement unless its Kanye West, Lady Ga ga etc. Why do u even take ur time to comment on what I wrote? U a Jay Z Stan??

@Pete Concrete: It takes a fair amount of time for me to properly digest an album. But not five listens. That seems like a lot. If you’re inclined to revisit an album that many times, it means that you like the album. That’s my opinion anyway

I took the time to comment on your post because I’ve become fascinated by people who pretend to dislike the art they repeatedly consume. It’s like cats who claim to hate fast food but stop at McDonalds every day.

I like Jay-Z, always have. I admit that his work after The Blueprint has been mostly garbage, but I still spin his stuff from the 90’s pretty regularly. And I like his new album. It’s good stuff.

@Mike: I haven’t listened to it since I got the new Buze Bruvaz, Doppz and Agallah, if that says anything.

I seem to remember almost identical thinkpieces when “The Black album” dropped. Jay-Z was never all that. he was just in the right place at the right time and the right rivals got killed. I’ve never been a Jay-Z fan. He’s the McDonalds of rap: Ubiquitous and consistently on-trend. I don’t watch Reality TV or read celebrity magazines so Jay-Z being “confessional” about his vapid life of luxury holds no value to me. atm, I’m enjoying ALLTTA’s “The upper hand” and The Doppelgangaz “Dopp Hopp.” Let’s talk about actual good/interesting rap music. Let’s not do jay-Z’s marketing for him.

I actually liked the album but the replay value is highly limited. It was interesting the first time to listen to what Jay was saying, but I really don’t want to listen repeatedly about him apologizing and cataloging his misdeeds.

I think there’s also a chance that his “confessions” are just some elaborate multi-album marketing ploy with his wife. If true, I would find that very distasteful.

I’d rather go back and relisten to the albums released this year by YO Droog, Homeboy Sandman, G Rap, Da Vilins, and Oddissee.

@slappy: the McDonald’s reference is actually in point. Jay z is nothing but fast food for u thoughts. I fell for the old Disney video but now Im way beyond that trash. There’s so many better albums this year Show and Cules, Rosebudds, Sadat X, Buze Bruvaz, Agallah etc. Jay z nasal voice just gets to me over time. Im not that insecure that I try to hide that I’m a closset jay stan. Come on u cunt! Thats just a low blow!
