Is this an answer record to Akinyele’s ‘Thug Shit’? Because that hook has me catching a flashback to 1997. History shows that neither of these songs reached the level of ‘Whomp (There It Is)’ / ‘Whoot, There It Is’ confusion that Tag Team and 95 South endured. This sounds like the kind of late nineties Bridge Rap that Hydra Records might have released, except it’s on the brilliantly titled King Of Rock Entertainment so let’s assume that Sonny’s man’s and ’em paid to get this pressed. The dude behind the boards is Goldfingaz, who also did some stuff for Capone-N-Noreaga.
Speaking of which, NORE and Joe Buddens thought it would be cute to shit on Combat Jack today, proving once and for all that Tragedy’s ‘Blood Type’ was bang on point when he said: ‘Taught you how to spit taught you how to breathe on beats/If it wasn’t for me you’d probably be on the street’.
