File under ‘Attempted Club Bangers That May Never Have Actually Been Played In A Club’, much like Rockwilder‘s remix of ‘Thick’ for D.I.T.C. It appears that Puba wasn’t trying to hear that rapping-on-top-of-a-building shit and filmed his part in a bar, although it’s more likely that he just slept-in on the day of the shoot. One can only imagine that Loon was contractually obliged to provide the hook due to the Arista connection, since I’m pretty sure he literally phoned in his contribution from a payphone.
While ‘Let’s Dance’ with Busta Rhymes fell flat, ‘Don’t Let It Go To Your Head’ – the other single from the Foundation album – provided the crew with the highest Billboard chart position of their career as they all tackled the theme from different angles.
While the original was smoothly inoffensive, it was the Neptunes remix (retitled ‘Take It To The Head’) that provided Puba, Sadat and Jamar with the greatest dance floor smasher of their discography. Word to Kelis on the back-up vocals. If only Pharrell could have given something like this to Kool G Rap, maybe that Rawkus album would have hit…

Puba’s flow fits party joints, Sadat’s and Jamar’s have always been more at ease with hard tracks, just as G. Rap’s. Their attempts to party stuff have never worked. That said, I liked the “Foundation” album, especially this Lord Finesse-produced joint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWCwn1T7Fx8
OG version of “Back Up Off The Wall” was dope as hell though
Never seen this video before. Nice work on the dig up Robbie.
