Finally got my hands on a bootleg of this masterpiece, yet another casualty of the ‘Cop Killer’ fallout which resulted in any rap lyrics involving shooting police being either censored or the whole song getting pulled. DJ Premier really went all-in with that demented horn loop that recalls a squeaky screen door swinging in the wind, while Havoc and Prodigy come out swinging with the ultimate revenge fantasy. As great as the Mobb’s ‘Shook Ones, Pt. II’ rebirth was, I’ll always have a soft spot for their early, post-Poetical Prophets era music. Juvenile Hell still gets a lot of play around my way.
Let’s not forget the two remakes/tributes, both of which offer their own unique spin:
Nighthawks – Cop Hell
DJ Rude One feat. J-Zone Chief Chinchilla – Cop Hell

Greatness.
