There’s no doubt that Mantronik‘s production work on many of T La Rock‘s records is part of their legendary status, but T and DJ Louie Lou still produced some great cuts together, one of which is the b-side to “This Beat Kicks” called “Scratch Monopoly”.
This is the first song to flip the loop from Grover Washington Jr‘s. “Winelight” Bill Wither‘s “Just The Two Of Us”, which is best known as Smif ‘N Wessuns‘ “Wreckonize (Remix)” and later appeared on Fresh Prince‘s cheesy Father’s Day anthem “Just The Two Of Us” (which was itself lampooned by Eminem).
Lou showcases his skills with cut-ups of “Marley Scratch”, “Al-Nayfish” and other standards, and remembers the long abandoned rule of keeping his scratching on beat. T champions his abilities throughout, and as usual he delivers vocals far beyond the standard DJ track cliches.

This track isn’t that bad, though I’m not that crazy about the snare(less) drum and the Snap (“I’ve got the power!”) parts. Maybe the 12″ versions (B side of ‘Housin’ With The T’s’) were better.
