Should Kool G Rap have his CRC-Approved status revoked?

The whole Jadakiss debacle was one thing, since he’s no stranger to questionable musical choices, but I’m lost for words after watching the first minute of Kool G Rap and Grant*’s video. For the last ten years or so, many veteran rappers have been forced to do work for hire features with unworthy customers, whether offering their services for $500 a verse on Myspace or hawking their raps on Twitter. It’s painfully clear that the lack of benefits in the music industry have forced some of hip-hop’s legendary lyricists to rhyme for the highest bidder, regardless of talent.

It was one thing that G Rap recorded an entire album with Necro, but at like him or hate him, at least Ron Braunstein is an actual legitimate producer and rap fan. Ya boy Grant* describes himself as follows: ‘Gun to my head, I’d say my sound is a blend of pop-esque hooks, white boy backpack raps, old school vibes, and classic rock (I’m sure some Police made it in there subconsciously).’ To have to see G Rap, who I personally consider to be the greatest MC of all time, have to stand there and pretend to bop his head to the garbage spilling out of this kid’s mouth deprives me of the very will to live. Is KGR in such dire financial waters that he’s now forced to associate with cigar-smoking high school kids to make rent? Can’t Nas give him a job managing his sneaker spot or something?

Should we of the Conservative Rap Coalition feel sorry that one of our heroes has been reduced to whoring out his verses in order to make ends meet? I think not. It’s a shame that the great man has been reduced to this, but we need to set an example. If we let this violation slide, where will it stop? As much as it pains me, I have no choice as the CRC president but to put the matter to a vote. Should the Kool Genius of Rap be forever cast into the wilderness of rapper’s who fell off, or should he be granted a second chance because of his enormous contributions to the rap game?

I say kick him out. The late Sean Price reinvented himself while staying true to himself and his fans. G Rap should’ve been following the same blueprint.

There is no irony in this. It is not even funny. It’s like watching J-Swift at rock bottom. Why did not Kool G Rap son this clown on his own track ( à la Trillmatic ) and bounce with the money? At 00:51 it looks like KGR is fixing to hurl ( about where I felt the same way ).

There is no reason a grown man cannot get it together without getting turned-out by some absurd – what, 20 year-old at most – dude with pockets and a scientifically verifiable black-hole where skills would normally be found.

This is bad, and KGR needs an intervention…perhaps AG and Sadat are around to help. I vote no based on the corpus, but this is a remarkably depressing song.

M.O.P. did a song with LFO. Meth and Primo got down with Limp Bizkit. It wasn’t the best G Rap verse I’ve ever heard, but it also wasn’t a debacle. Let the man eat.

Someone should release a G Rap only version of that Godfathers shit.

“I’m John Wilkes Booth on your mom duke’s stoop
And I shoot cause your moms spilt soup on the Don’s silk suit”

He gets a pass from me.

Na na na. Firstly i have a great amount of respect for Sean Price. I have more positive shit to do than trawl myspace looking for a wack artist sean p did a verse for. Who cares. What’s with the witch hunt. G-Rap stays. And R.I.P Sean Price.

    So,

Old school artists don’t get support from fans, so they do what they have to to eat, and then people want to withdraw the props they have earned in addition to the support that’s already gone?

And we wonder why we keep losing every form of music we make.
