Considering my obsession with rap trivia, it’s amazing that I never got around to grabbing a copy of Rakim Told Me, but since Brian Coleman just threw me a copy of his expanded edition, I’ve finally been able to absorb this shit. Anything involving Schoolly-D is essential as far as I’m concerned, and best believe…

KRS-One – The Unkut Interview
One of the all-time highlights in my Unkut Dot Com experience would have to be speaking to DJ Kenny Parker last year, and when I recently had the chance to speak to his younger brother Kris a week or so ago, it was on like Donkey Kong. The problem was, unlike the three hours I…
Unkut meets Wikipedia
I found this fairly amusing – it seems that my half-baked theories regarding Jeru The Damaja‘s relationship with Biggie have been “immortalized” in the Jeru Wikipedia entry. Here’s the original article and the resulting “fall-out”.
25 Desert Island Discs
Hawking back to the shitty radio trend of announcers asking their guests to name the music they’d want to have on hand should they happen to be marooned somewhere with a portable stereo and a power supply. Straight Bangin’ put out the call, and although I initially just dug up my list from last year,…
Big Men On Campus: John Belushi Vs Biggie Smalls
Two fatties at the height of their respective powers were taken from this small planet in the month of March – one, a waffle-guzzling comedian with an appetite for destruction. The other – the brother of the guy from K-9. Ten and twenty-five years ago, respectively, these two hedonistic maniacs checked-out, leaving gigantic shoes that…
Hip-Hop Music Was Perfected in 1986
For the proof, listen to this… I’ll get into this in more detail soon, but here’s a few reasons why 1986 was better than ’88 and ’94: 1. Just-Ice and Mantronik created “Cold Gettin’ Dumb”, which is without a doubt one of the greatest songs ever created in the history of modern music. 2. You…
Tribute To Ignorance Awards For 2006
Beer gimmick of the year – the Heiny mini-keg! Best Blog for Obscure Rap Albums: Without a doubt, the crew at Bust The Facts killed it this year with everything from Miami Bass albums to Supreme Nyborn. Sure, I’m not about to kick back with a Heineiken mini-keg and listen to all four of Candyman‘s…
Jay-Z Wins The First Annual “Fuckouttahere” Award
Jay-Z takes a call from Marley Marl on Ed Lover’s radio show Listening to Jay get interviewed these days is like watching Meet The Press or some shit – a whole lotta spin. But who actually believes that he would’ve used a Marley Marl beat on Kingdom Come? As far as the other comments, let…
Mikey D – The Unkut Interview
In terms of having some tough breaks in the rap game, Mikey D has weathered some rough times over the years. From Cool J allegedly biting his style in the old days to an ill-fated stint as Xtra-P’s replacement in Main Source and having his NMS belt stolen by Melle Mel, Mikey has endured as…
Not For Sale – NYOIL Interview
Here’s an email interview I just did with NYOIL, who’s “Y’All Should All Get Lynched” video is stirring-up some mixed feelings at the moment. Robbie: I liked what you said on your MySpace blog about not showing your face and letting the music speak. NYOIL: These days before you even get to hear the music,…
“Lynched” Video Banned By YouTube
After getting over 5,000 views in one day, YouTube removed this “anti-cooning” video from Staten Island’s NYOIL. I guess Google are throwing their weight around over there already, huh? Sounds like the Black Bastards cover controversy all over again… Dude’s not biting his tongue for no one by the looks of things, as the clip…
Kenny Parker – The Unkut Interview, Part 3
Wrapping up my conversation with Kenny Parker, he shares some classic BDP stories, including the night that KRS debuted “The Bridge Is Over” at Union Square…. [Part 1 Part 2] Robbie: So did Kris really become a “Born Again” Christian? Kenny Parker: For lack of a better term, I’m gonna say “Yeah”. But he’s a…
