As part of some cruel joke, my editor at Acclaim thought it would be amusing to force me to listen to Snoop Doggy Dogg’s second album, which was released nineteen years ago today.
No Country For Old (Rap) Men: Looking back at Snoop’s sophomore struggle

Had to be THE worst sophomore album I’ve ever purchased. After I listened to it I vowed to never purchase another album without listening to it. Few years later I made the mistake with immobilarity.
Rob, It would be fair for Snoop if you list the worst sophomore albums.
Ok Tha Doggfather and Immobilarity were wack but what about Canibus 2000 BC ?
Groupie and Up jump the boogie are the best songs on there. Considering what was going on at the time in his life and in mine, I still rock the album from time to time.
Surprised he never covered spoonie g’s godfather for doggfather or would have been just too corny for this great album!
We did that back in 2008: http://www.unkut.com/2008/10/worst-follow-up-ever/
Wow that album was terrible!! Funny I was just bumping PMD’s Shade Business the other day. Similar circumstances as far as a breakup of a top notch duo, but with much different outcomes. Snoop bricked but PMD hit a home run with this slept-on classic! While E was blowing up making hits with Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and movie soundtracks, P went back to the lab sticking to his grimey, New Jersey, Slow Flow formula. The result was this ruff, rugged and raw banger! Solid beats, amazing samples and classic Parrish Smith and crew rhymes! This gem is well worth a second look especially with all the average fare that passes for underground rap nowadays. Keep your hoodies on and your boots laced!
The Fugees’ Western song was called “Cowboys,” not “Desperados.” Say what you will about the Fugees, but there’s nothing wack about my beloved Outsidaz.
Rob, something you mentioned gave me an idea. What about dope MC’ who had a lot of classic singles but no classic albums? I can think of two off the head: Busta and Luda…
I haven’t listened to this or any other album (at least in its entirety) from Snoop after Doggy Style. And I don’t think I ever will.
is there enough decent “cowboy rap” to make a compilation?
