The following are a collection of remixes that where perhaps only an extra horn, new drums or a rearrangement of the samples differentiates them from the original version, but they’re still significantly better. You could add most of the 80’s Cold Chillin’ 12: mixes to this list, natch.
Brand Nubian – Slow Down [Pete Rock Remix]
Pete Rock & CL Smooth – ‘Straighten It Out’ [remix]
EPMD – ‘Crossover’ [Test Pressing Remix]
Stezo – ‘Freak The Funk’ [12″ Version]
Brand Nubian – ‘All For One’ [Radio Remix]
Big Daddy Kane – ‘Ain’t No Half Steppin” [Vocal Remix]
Public Enemy – ‘Night of the Living Baseheads’ [Anti High Blood Pressure Encounter Mixx]
Ultramagnetic MC’s – ‘Give The Drummer Some’ [Vocal Remix]
Biz Markie – ‘Vapors’ [Remix]
Marley Marl – ‘The Symphony’ [Remix]’

Buck em down remix, plus its a top 5 radio edit where its better than the OG
radio version of One In The Chamba by The Almighty R.S.O. Way better delivery.
Your on point in regards to the Cold Chillin’ 12’s. Love Nobody Beats the Biz.
That Slow Down remix was one of Pete’s lazier joints. The Straighten It Out joint was better but just as unnecessary. Give The Drummer Some should have been left alone…
Gang Starr’s “DWYCK” horny instrumental comes to mind as well…
you’re on point about the cold chillin’ remixes, but marley wanted to get paid even for doing lazy work after creating the masterpieces he made i guess. i found a few more remixes that sound similar to the og version to add to the list:
de la soul- itz soweezee
audio two- top billin’
gza- cold world
ice-t- you played yourself
krs-one- ah yeah (a million versions and they all sound damn near the same)
low profile- funky song
main source- fakin’ the funk (i know the vocals are different but damn)
redman- time 4 sum aksion
I disagree. In almost every case of these posted examples the originals or rather LP versions were far superior. These alternate versions are wack and sound cheap.
One remix that sounded similar but was much better was the remix to PE’s Anti-Nigger Machine. It had extra verses. Does that count?
Oh plus the original version of Black Sheep’s The Choice is Yours was pretty similar but with a different last verse and that “Ugn, Come On” sample played throughout the song. The remix was much better in my opinion.
Shit, I meant the remix had the extra verse and the “Ugn, Come On” sample. This version was better. Sorry for all the posts in a row.
“significantly better”
Aww man, I respect your opinion but you be smoking that shit that’s fucking up yo sense of hearing homie.
masta killa – pass the bone remix. it’s so half ass but it rips.
Craig G – Shootin The Gift remix.
