There’s a lot of talk about what rap should and shouldn’t have done, but why does it having to do anything beyond being great?

Much as i hate to agree with you, i do agree with you.
I’m no writer, but I believe you’ve got some tense- issues with the wording in that sentence.
Robbie you sound like Bill Maher’s Wack Ass when he was telling American’s to just ‘ get over ‘ W/Cheney/Rove’s heist of America … When we should have been tearing this whole shit apart! ( maybe no 9/11, maybe no Iraq War etc..) HipHop IS the culture; and the whole point is it is NOT , to paraphrase you ” Being Great ” right now.
Personally fuck Questlove’s pretentious articles, reading them has been like taking a 14hr flight to my motherfucking backyard!? …..I really think what a lot of cats ( specifically the Questlove bracket ) are afraid of is NOT that HipHop is dead but that it’s gone back to the subculture where bitchassness can’t find it anymore….everything you see with the naked eye is Hair Metal/Corporate Rock/Swag Rap ….everything Smells Like Teen Spirit ( 20pt reference score ) The Creators have BEEN @ WAR since they stole the Blues and took the cool away from Jazz ….HipHop is the Final Frontier ( no Star Trek ) I don’t know about sucka ass suckas but I’m holding on like my Native Indian bredren/sistren @ the 2014 Pow Wows …..4 Life -2 The Death – Til Infinity ……Now read this scroll ” Like They Do In The Future ” ( RIP Camu Tao )
By no means do I suggest that anybody “gets over it”. My point being that hip-hop music and/or culture isn’t enough on it’s own.
@Robbie…picture this,21st Century; an Australian dude becomes a respected voice within a global community that all started w/a bunch of hunted/unwanted 20th Century kids from NYC doin it for themselves. HipHop DID THAT “on it’s own”
HIPHOP is Amazing b!
I mean shit most of us grew up during the 80s and 90s on a steady diet of hip hop greatness. Of course we expected too much lol…we also lived the culture too and the love we have for it is something that is almost completly lost on this generation
