What happens when you combine Three Times Dope‘s squeeky-voiced weed carrier with a post-Furious Five Grandmaster Flash chorus (“Larry’s Theme”) and some cheesy keyboard noises? “Larry, That’s What They Call Me”, that’s what. After appearing on a couple of tracks from 3xD’s smoother-out but still worthwhile second album, Larry Larr and DJ Mad Ice dropped this single to introduce his Da Wizzard of Odds LP. For a weed holder, it wasn’t a bad album, but at the same time there is absolutely no reason why you’d throw it on the system these days.
Larry’s first single attempted to follow the path of “Call Me D-Nice” by repeating his name as much as possible in a single song. The 12″ included three variations on the LP mix, the most hardcore being the Ced-Gee remix, which adds the “Impeach The President” drums and several other breaks at different points to give the trendy musical basis of Chuck Nice‘s original that much-needed “jeep beat” appeal. However, the corny New Jack Swing keyboard stabs remain to give the whole thing a painfully dated feel that it just can’t shake. Nevertheless, this remains an intersting footnote in Ced’s discography.

Ha, this is actually quite nice.
Not heard this one before either.
