A Tribute To Sean Price – CRC Icon

Sean Price exemplified everything that the Conservative Rap Coalition stands for. He was a fan of self-depricating humor, blocking people on Twitter for the slightest of infractions and refused to catch buses since they’re basically for old people. He was also one of the few MC’s who managed to improve with age. As much as I enjoyed the music of Heltah Skeltah, I can’t quote a line from either of their first two albums from memory. Sean P solo, however, was a cot-damn quotable machine. I saw him perform twice, and both times he delivered a strong, no gimmick display of great rapping. The first time in Melbourne, backed by PF Cuttin, and then at S.O.B.’s in 2013 for the Statik Selektah album launch. Later that evening Dallas Penn introduced me to Mr. Price, who appreciated my firm, man-style handshake and kept it moving, just as it’s supposed to be.

We salute Sean P for his unwavering dedication to rugby tops and polo shirts, his staunch refusal to ever let his verbal blade become dulled by the passage of time and for reminding the world that Brag Rap is still the finest form expression available to us on this tiny planet. His passing on Saturday is a sad day for hip-hop, his friends and especially his family. I like to believe that the best way to honor the memory of the big guy is to man-up and not mope around like a bunch of pussies. Sean Price didn’t play that shit.

You can help Sean Price’s wife and three children during this difficult time by donating here.

There was a time when I liked Rock’s rapping better, eventually I feel like Ruck eclipsed Rock’s ability. And we always have Songs in the Key of Price to look forward to. R.I.P.

THIS DUDE WAS PROOF THAT A RAPPER COULD STAY RELEVANT WITHOUT JUST BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL COMPLAINER (SEE FOR EXAMPLE STAKES IS HIGH ERA DE LA SOUL) OR A SLAVE TO TRENDS THAT THEY REALLY WERENT DOWN WITH (IF YOU ARE OVER 30 AND HAVE RAPPED UNIRONICALLY ABOUT GETTING “TURNT” THEN I AM TALKING ABOUT YOU). DUDE JUST GOT BETTER AND BETTER AT RAPPING AS TIME WENT ON.

WE SALUTE HIM AND WISH HIM A PEACEFUL JOURNEY.

I agree that he became better as a solo artist but he had plenty of memorable verses on the first two Heltah Skeltah albums either way R.I.P. Sean

Such a great loss: as a person, a father, a real emcee. Blessings, Brother. You’re gone too soon.
    Damn…

Not very often that a 20-year rapper is better in the second 10 years of his career but it’s definitely true for mr. price. Most of the post-black moon BCC music was boring but solo Sean shined bright. R.I.P

Glad I got to show the man the props he deserved face to face before he departed this mortal coil.

Always showed those onionheads what’s his name.

Loved his rapping since the opening track off Nocturnal. He was more subdued back then and really made the group work.

Co-sign gstatty. Rock has the ill voice that made him stand out more in Heltah Skeltah but Sean stepped his bars way up I’m the last 10 years or so. Good to see him getting this live now but I hope he doesn’t end up Dilla, overrated to death by lames who didn’t have a clue who he was when he was here. Rest In Paradise, P…

R.I.P Sean Price! Just one of those figures in the culture that was truly one of a kind and just all around humble and down to earth…. Monkey Barz is a classic IMO

The 2010 DuckDown Tour started in Tampa FL, and I had a chance to see Sean Price and the entire DuckDown. Like most Shows in Tampa, very small crowd, but very loud, Sean Price seemed disappointed cause the crowd was small, I remember him saying he felt like he was on the “Chittlin Circuit”, we cried laughing, but he performed in typical Sean P fashion! We in the Chittlin Circuit salute you brotha, Rest in Peace!
