While for many the retro vhs flip is a cool throwback, whether used for product visual promo and marketing or on some trashy instagram app, for Heata its been engrained in his DNA makeup since he departed school & literally entered the set.
Film sat alongside music as not only a career but a lifelong love, glaringly evident by his extensive collections of clamshells paired up against the stacks and racks of tapes, 12’s, 7’s and rap longboxes adorning his “shed” walls.
His intimate knowledge of B grade classics is on display throughout Executions as he cut and pastes incredible grabs from some of the rarest low grade gems to accompany the dusty as fuck 45 flips, beat chops, scratches and neck snapping production intertwined throughout the 60 minutes of Action, Drama & hints of hysterical comedy that lace side A and B of the tape.
Visually it’s meticulous and brilliant ode to the aforementioned is gleamingly ahead of the drag and drop jackers milking the theme within an inch of its life.
Combining with April 77 to construct, the multi faceted elements and attention to detail is sure to get the nod of approval from the Clamshell Mafia bosses across the 5 families.
Whilst EXE is certainly unlike anything on the shelves at the moment, finding the correct title to describe its style for P.R purposes, has proved a little difficult.
Its a cut & paste tape, indeed, but unlike any that precede it and simply calling it that fails to do it justice.
Yes its a medley of loops and rares and breaks and movie grabs cut and pasted, but its also crazy heavy on the cut, theres live deck-work, verses and bits of tracks blended but its not a mixtape, its flipped and overlayed with edits, but it aint that either. Its remixes and features guest mcs and djs but nor is it a producer album.
It encompasses all this and more as Heatas own production pumps through vigorously as the projects lifeblood and truly sets it apart from any and all before it.
The hard and fast style of late 80s rap production probably best describes Heatas own beat making sound that weaves in and out of Executions seamlessly yet with an incredible punch and kick to the senses.
In addition, 2 key components hold down a side each with the previous (SOLD OUT) PBR 7” drop getting some nice positioning amidst the madness, allowing those who missed the limited edition 45 a last chance to own both gems on another format.
Executions will be a strictly limited release on Cassette and CD only. One time for ya mind. NO digi(dy).
